Irrelevant.

Society has decided that it wants to watch football. Football has been shown to be a multi billion dollar a year industry. People who have the ability to perform at that level are few and far between. People with that ability are in high demand. People with that ability have bargaining power. Thats how a free market works.

We can argue that a society who cares more about a game over academics might be in trouble in the long run, but here we are. Maybe we should start watching academic contest and get all crazy over those.

Just something to think about.
