The big $$$ would be the NFL, not NIL. Lewis needs to get on the field. That's gonna be harder there than here.
He basically pulled a reverse Joe Burrow.
And I don't wish him well. He plays for Bama. Hope he drops every pass thrown his way. And should he catch one I hope he fumbles it.
FIFY... after a bone crushing hit by a would have been LSU teammate.

He preferred 25K to be 11th on the Alabama depth chart instead of coming here and competing for a starting spot. Best of luck to him.
Exactly - $25k ain’t going to go very far when he’s riding the bench.

There is no way that dude went to bama over 25k.
The real answer is he wanted to go to bama.

I feel that's overstated. Over the years this is a common line of thinking with no real basis in reality. Kids always want to play with their friends, but when it comes down to these decisions it's always made with the family. Maybe something like that comes out as an"tiebreaker" occasionally, but IMO it's a non-issue.
Gotta draw the line somewhere. I'm not going to pay a penny over value for my truck, my house or my recruits. I'm 100% ok with looking elsewhere. I'll let other people pay overvalue of they're that foolish.

I’m not as into recruiting as a lot of y’all, but I thought we were NILSU. Now we can’t compete because of NIL? Can someone explain?

Lil Nicky hates that other teams can openly pay players like he has quietly paid players for years

They'll have multiple TEs with splinters in their asses. What a shame...
Which I've said a few times, Lewis will never mean as much to Bama as he did to us. Oh well.

I think almost all responses here are missing the main point.
The main point is that the Gumps were organized enough and configured to automatically offer an NIL deal to a 3* recruit.
They have their NIL "shadows" pre-set in a way that once an offer went out one was in place by default if he accepted the scholarship offer. All he had to do was A) visit to be presented the NIL offer and B) sign to get the NIL offer.
No hemming and hawing, no gathering the forces, no debate of whether he is worth it. Their NIL structure ASSUMES if Saban thinks he is good enough for a scholarship, he is good enough for a commensurate NIL deal. They pulled it out of a pile and he was pre-ranked internally and the smallish NIL deal reflected that.
But he didn't even have to ask for it. It was presented on the visit as a matter of course.
This is where NIL is at... not going, is at.

You have no idea if any of this is true lol.
It could have literally been a last minute "oh shite let's throw him $25k so he signs with us."

Yep and he’s going to sit the bench. Portal next year. Book it

And I will do it with sarcasm. Let's pretend I don't know jack shite other than history prior to Lewis signing with Bama.
- Saban has never known to be organized
- Saban is also lazy as frick, he would never put any energy into a Lewis
- Saban sucks at this recruiting thing, tactically and strategically
- Bama boosters would never give money to a future bench rider. Never have, never will.
- Bama booster, a whole handful of them, were just waiting with bated breath for the bountiful marketing potential of a 3* TE from New Iberia LA. It is the perfect opportunity they couldn't pass up for their business.
- It's just blind luck a NIL deal could be put together in a matter of weeks.
- Saban doesn't bother using every advantage.
So it was just destiny that this 3* TE from New Iberia just fell into their lap after being committed to Cinn, right after LSU offered, with this superberb marketing potential in Alabama that the boosters just couldn't wait to make him an offer on his first visit just prior to 2nd signing day and do it in a short-notice (only recruited him for a couple of weeks) shortened time frame.
Or... they pulled a pre-set minor NIL deal "off the shelf".
Can ignore reality all you want and pretend it is dick riding or play possum because I didn't provide an interwebs link from some random guy posing as an expert. I'm ok with that. But reality didn't change; your view didn't move the needle one iota in our favor.
And let's not forget Bama is still targeting Boutte and some future kids from New Iberia. But he doesn't think that strategically... right?

Why pay NIL money to a guy who may be a bust. I’d wait until the second year for these 3 stars and lure them away with NIL when they actually show some production. You know these guys will want to transfer if they aren’t starting soon too. The portal is going to create a lot of movement. Use your money wisely. Think of the amount of money we would have wasted on Ish Sopsher if NIL has existed then.

I think with three or four spots left for signees, LSU will be in great shape to get a solid tight end sometime between now and the end of spring football, even early summer.
Then the fan base shouldn't even miss Lewis.
