Are we just not a destination for 5* Dline anymore?

I understand we captured multiple 4* and 5* in recent years along the line, but are we not a destination where the best of the best want to go anymore? It seems like we want to hang our hats on being DBU, and I love it. However, we need to start getting these edge rushers from Bama. I feel like we have, the rest of college football, and the media have just come to accept that Bama is just so much better than everyone else. I understand we need to beat them to get any credit, but it’s only going to happen if we can get Dline recruits.

Bama doesn’t usually have guys that make an impact in their first year or two. Most of their talent on the DL is developed. We have some guys that we can hopefully develop, but the problem is we need them now.

Many of our 5* defensive linemen haven't worked out that well in the past. Find some guys regardless of ranking that are hungry, motivated and willing to commit to S&C

It’s not like we can shite out new elite DL prospects. It’s been a while since Louisiana was putting guys out like Dorsey, Lavalais, Spears, Hill, McFarland, etc. The recent classes have been pretty weak across the country and in-state as far as elite dline guys go and we haven’t helped ourselves by missing on the few that are top prospects. It is what it is. Hopefully we right the ship with the 2020 class and its haul of DL’s

For the last four year, and next year, we will have had Arden Key and/or Chaisson on the roster.

I believe Ed Alexander was a 5* at one time.

We could have gotten Ed Oliver if we had been willing to do what it takes. LSU just hasn't been willing to do the more questionable deeds to sign some of these elite players.

We need to find a way to get elite DLman and pass rushers here to LSU. If I'm LSU I'm going all out recruiting OLman, DLman and QBs to this school. We seem to have a good handle on the rest. We doing much better at LB/WR and continuing our success at DB. RBs seem to just be there for LSU except for last year, which was an anomaly. Just not the typical RB recruiting. It's back on track. Time to shift gears and hit the country sides for some real quality DLman, OLman, and QBs. If LSU and this staff can find a way to do that every year, we will be in a playoff in 3 to 4 years and not just there but winning.

Despite the down votes, I think it’s a fair enough question but would qualify it with the following: why can’t we get any OUT OF STATE highly ranked d-linemen? We’ve gotten Lawrence, Alexander, and Shelvin, all of whom were 5 stars (I think) or very high 4 stars. But they were all home grown. We can’t seem to pull the out of state guys as well lately. If we could just pull one or two of Pickering, Young, Handy, Moore, Stripling, Ika, then we’re not having this discussion.

The other thing to consider is what have our 5 stars done since getting here? I think they’ve been good but not spectacular. Seems to be as much a development issue to me.

I agree 100% and I think the honest answer is people don't Have faith in coach O, he's unproven and he hasn't changed what he said he's going to.
