Are we going to get an upperclassman kicker transfer, or roll with Dibert as the PK?

Dibert surely has kickoff duties, thought a transfer would come in for field goals. They’ll save a class spot for a transfer or is there a deadline?

I have some concerns here. Not sold yet on Dilbert like I was on the last 2 kickers (Tracy & York).

Dibert and York were similarly ranked out of high school. Dibert may be a tad higher.

I'm not sure about their rankings but York was hitting 60 yarders in a all star games in highschool.

Maybe Dilbert is just as good but I think York is one of the best kickers in lsu history

Why do you say that?

I think York was special early. Not surprising to anyone he’s going first in the draft as a Jr. Thats incredibly rare. No one will be surprised if Alex McPherson, in Dibert’s class, does the same.

He is now in hindsight definitely the best K in LSUs history, but Dilbert is ranked higher than York was at their same time in HS. York was a beast, same Coach recruited both York & Dilbert, I trust his eye test

I don’t see that. #2 ranked Kohl’s kickers both. You seeing another metric out there?

Watching Diberts videos I think we are in good shape at kicking.

Yea, but 7 for 12 FGs in 2021 is a bit concerning. Lord knows the holder and snapper control some of that. Charts out as the top in kickoff scores though, that’ll be nice.

I wouldn't be surprised if they grabbed a kicker after summer.

I was wondering when that would happen. I’m guessing transfers don’t go through a camp, just direct summer visits.

I guess one thing is how tough he is mentally. He will be kicking in the SEC. McMahon chose Cole, York, and Dilbert. Just like any other position, he will have to compete, even against walk ons, to win the job.

McMahon could have been choosing the highest rated kicker available and just rolling with it. I think coaches lean on the ranking services in kicking more than any other position.

We’re in that mix and the rating services themselves aren’t even really scouts. You are what your stats are, even the camp competitions don’t seem to matter.

You're not giving McMahon enough credit

The man was an nfl special teams coordinator. He wasn't just going off the kohl's kicker rankings.

McMahon was a great coach here.

Doesn’t mean the ranking systems don’t work. Did he select Cade because he was top ranked, or because he was an incredibly gifted kicker…one goes with the other.

Sure, but you were suggesting that McMahon basically outsourced his evals to the ratings:

While the best kicker and highest ranked kicker very well may be the same person, I would like to think that when you have a true special teams coordinator, that guy is actually evaluating kickers himself.

That is what they’re for.

I think the ranking services need to separate kickoff specialists from place kickers, but they are lumped right now.

Be interesting to see if someone transfers after school is out.
