You know the transfer portal exists...why don't you go and look at it and let us all know?

You going to be lazy for the rest of your life?

I think OP is asking if anyone has any info on the OTs in the portal.

Sure we can go look at what they were ranked out of HS but Chris Davenport was a 5 star DT who couldn’t crack the starting lineup at Tulane so it’s not exactly reliable to look at HS stars.

2013 (at Tulane): Started all 12 games he played in as a graduate student - nine at nose tackle and three at defensive end...named honorable-mention All-Conference USA after finishing tied for seventh on th eteam in pass break-ups (2), tied for eighth in sacks (1.5) and tied for 10th in tackles for loss (4.5) to go with 20 tackles (9 solo, 11 assists).

It was a bad example, but his point stands.

OT is not like QB where only one can play. If he is that good they have 5 spots on the Oline they can let someone play(obviously he might be better at OT, but you get my point)

There is really only one that was highly rated out of high school.

Drew Richmond - Tennessee (From Memphis)

I saw some legit OTs on there. However, I'm making a distinction between "legit", "upgrade", and "stud".

We have what is considered "legit" in this context. So we shouldn't use any precious 25 spots on non-graduate "legit" OTs, only on "upgrades" or better.

I do not see any studs. Richmond (UTn) and Murphy (UCLA) are potentials. I'm wary of Richmond and don't think Murphy is enough of an upgrade.

Andrew Trainer might be considered, but I don't know enough about him to really render and opinion, but he's intriguing. He's a converted TE who can move and supposedly has bulked up to close to 300 lbs, and is lengthy. If you're going high risk-high reward this is one to look at closely.

I'd rather take a chance on Olaseni (JUCO) than what I see on the list IF it means using both a 25 and 85 spot

It's hard to find a big time OT in the transfer portal because if he's really talented, he's being treated like royalty and is not about to leave that situation.

QB is really about the only position where a school can snag a big time player because top ranked QBs want to play and there's only one spot on the field.

Talented offensive linemen, particularly offensive tackles, are really hard to find, so if you land one, chances are that school is not going to let him get away!

I remember his recruitment. He was highly coveted. What happened?

He started at Tennessee and supposedly wasnt good. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. If we have a spot i wouldnt object to it.

Inconsistent is the word I would use. Some games he graded out as the best of the OL in pass blocking. Other times he stood out as a major disappointment. It's a huge flag to have such high highs and low lows- it is an indicator of something is really wrong.

However...
Richmond was benched in a cupcake game. Something happened at halftime and it turned into a doghouse/personal issue. So your comment about change of scenery just might be dead on.

Hence my thought of "wary".

A redshirt Jr, 4*, starting (2nd year), offensive tackle shouldn't be that inconsistent AND get benched against a non-P5 school. That's where all the pros vs cons regarding Richmond kind of come to a screeching halt. At that point, the risks far outweigh the rewards for 1 yr of OT.

I've watched some highlights and some lowlights of him (sparse data, I admit). I see someone who doesn't quite have the playbook down (very surprising) and lacks physical strength. He does move well, quite well, but lacks the technical expertise (technique) to sustain blocks. He's a world beater for 1.5 seconds, then falls apart at times.

Lots of turnover at Illinois for OT/OG. Not sure if any are LSU caliber though.

Larry Boyd is a take, but I have no clue what he is looking to do.

He looks good.

Any idea why he's transferring?

What we need is a talented tackle who is not getting playing time and/or needs a change of scenery. Sometimes a player gets in a bad situation. His position coach is fired or moves on and he does not mesh well with the new guy. His team as a whole falls apart and his HC gets fired. Or, the HC just gets a better gig. Everything changes with the program for the worst for him and he wants out.

All sorts of legit examples for transferring without it being a head case / character issue. We just don't need a guy who is inconsistent because he does not have a strong enough work ethic to try to learn the position how it really needs to be played or to hone in on his skills. If he is a slow learner then hopefully he got enough training before he ends up in LSU.

I can agree with a lot of this. I saw him in high school, and while he definitely looked the part, he didn't dominate like I felt he could have. And Memphis has good but not great HS football that some other major cities in the south have, so he should have been a beast.
