Big mistake not taking him IMO.

Illinois will have a GREAT 1-2 punch with Appleton and Benn at WR.

Appleton was the second best WR on our board IMO. Sad that we wouldn't offer him.

Randle, Debose, Brown... which two of those are not better prospects than Appleton?

Being an Illinois fan, I am happy we got him. But I don't understand why LSU didn't offer.

I am assuming we didn't offer since we wanted to hold out for Debose and Randle. I guess the coaches would rather risk only taking 1 other WR than scare off Debose...

Not offering and putting all their eggs in the Debose & Randle basket could come back to bite LSU in the butt.

Looking at all the receivers left on the board I can't say LSU sits "Well" with any recruit. Randle could easily be a 50-50, and others less of a chance than that.

Agreed. For you experts out there, how much better is Debose than Appleton?

Does this development make us go after Wooten even harder?

Randle
Debose
Marlon Brown
Bell
Patrick Patterson
Wooten
Jamal Patterson
Lamar Scruggs
....

Appleton.

All those guys I listed have offers other than Appleton...kind of shows you how far down the list he was. If he had come to camp, then he definitely could have earned an offer. Disappointing.

I like Appleton, but there are bigger fish in the sea that we are still very much in the mix for. No need to jump the gun early and kick ourselves on signing day for not having enough room for Debose or some other highly sought after recruit.

Our class would be easy top 15-20 on signing day if we stopped taking recruits right now. We still have some of our most coveted recruits still out there showing significant interst. So with limited number of spots left I say we go ALL IN for the big boys and hope for the best. Not worried about Appleton, I mean he never had an offer to begin with. And his non-offer had nothing to do with grades or character.

Different kinds of WR. I love Appleton, but Debose is much better. Debose is a unique talent...he is a legit Percy Harvin comparison.

I would have to say yes.

We are basically down to 3 main targets at WR and we need to fill two spots. Debose, Randle, and Wooten are the main three...you can sya 4 if you include Marlon Brown who we have an outside shot at.

Wooten is suppose to announce later this month...if he goes to UGA (like most think, b/c we doubt LSU takes his commitment << thats sucks too b/c he is a great talent as well) then LSU kind of gets in a bind.

However, if LSU lands Debose, Randle, Bell and Benton qualifies then NO ONE will have anything bad to say...we will all be ecstatic..but slim chances for everything to fall in to place like that.

Debose and Brown. I've never seen Debose catch a pass so I don't know what kind of receiver he is, but he's quick. Brown has freakish upside but may not pan out. I think Appleton is a lock to be a big time receiver in college.

And I don't really think Brown is a likely possibility so i wasn't really including him in the comparison with Appleton, but the 2 of them are pretty close in terms of ability.

Kinda like offering Chris Garrett right?

We still have Calhoun to fall back on at WR if we end up not getting any of the big guys on our board.

Yeah, he is not a top 100 player. He is actually top 50. That's ok, I am sure Zook is happy.

I'm saying what makes him top 50. Watch his videos. Give me analysis on why he is a top 50 WR.

No big deal - we had guys a lot higher on our board than him.

Randle - 50-50
Debose - Don't lead but have more than a decent chance
Marlon Brown - Very slim chance
Bell - Ours obviously
Patrick Patterson - Isn't he committed to Miss st?
Wooten - 50-50
Jamal Patterson - Favors other schools more

If thats correct then it does not look bad or good, you just cant miss out on 2/3 of Randle, Debose, Wooten.

At this point, I'd consider Randle more than 50/50.

He's tall, well built, fast (state hurdles champion), has great hands, and runs good routes. Other than that he's mediocre. Oh and he seems to be pretty good in the air with the ball.
