This is not about grabbing whatever you can find in the portal (like Chestnut, Speights etc.). I agree that you don't just keep bringing in transfers to play over the guys you recruited.
But this is a different moment in time. An elite roster is being shaken up due to Saban retiring. These aren't kids just leaving to find playing time.

That looks to be exactly what they are doing. It’s nutty, fans would rather win recruiting titles vs actually organically building the roster. Zero patience & no attention span.
So they got burned one time and they are done with the portal? I think more people would understand if we were one player away last year from being great on defense but that didn’t seem to be the case at all. And some pointing to a bunch of freshman recruits doesn’t really mean jack for this year.

Unlike Kiffin, who is all in for next year, it seems Kelly is trying to build a foundation for a program that isn't just looking for one championship but creating a championship environment that is going to attract the best players out of high school.

ABSOLUTELY
Very surprised that Davis hasn't brought at least two DT with him or that he had recruited.
Same goes for any 4-5* CB/S.
We are desperate at this point to sign some real talent at these two positions.
Signing the Ausberry's of the world isn't going to get LSU anywhere.

I love all the coaching hirers but holy shite this is some sunshine pumping after watching our defense last year.
