As long as they leave after lsu academic fall calendar ends. I'd assume a few do... ricks, max, Smith, maybe brennan, buggs, Evans depending on when really departed.

It's fair to say we'll be at 5-7 eligible come January. If we can get 20 freshman, 5 transfers, then 5 of these count backs.. could add 30 kids just this yr.

Do you honestly believe LSU is going to be able to find enough players to fill all these scholarships?

So can we only add 7 if we lose 10?

I don't get that. You should be able to replace what you lost.

I cut and pasted a paragraph from a SI article by Ross Dellinger in a new post but will pst again

Schools are only allowed to replace players who enter the transfer portal after the early signing period. Schools would have to replace them by the time camp starts. They would not carry over to the next class.

The following excerpt is from an article on Oklahoma St. recruiting in the Oklahoman:

"The NCAA Division I Council approved a one-year waiver signing and initial counter limits to allow schools to replace up to seven transfers. Schools will only be allowed to replace players who enter the portal after the school’s fall term or Dec. 15, 2021 — whichever is earlier — according to The Athletic."

I’m assuming all of the guys transferring finish the fall semester this week so they will be in good academic standing to leave and be eligible. That should allow us to maximize the 7 transfer openings.

Still unclear to me on the timing of “when they enter the portal”…gives the impression that the guys who have already entered wouldn’t count

I still think this is a school semester situation. They can “announce” that they are entering the transfer portal, but not actually put their name in until the end of semester.

There's a Dec. 1st cutoff date.

But I have a question: Is that Dec 1st entering the portal (which I doubt because they are still enrolled and using LSU financial aid) OR is it found a place to transfer to before Dec 1st?

If it is the transfer has to have been completed before Dec 1st we get a spot for Ricks (to the best of our knowledge) but not Dare, for example.

Yeah it’s not when they enter their name, it’s when they leave school. So these guys will count towards our 7.

LINK

Official NCAA link.

It is not entering the portal, it is actually leaving the school.

The last 4 will count. Brennan and Ricks are maybes, depending on whether they have already left school. Moore and Strong definitely won’t count if they withdrew from school.

This year? No.

But if we hit the transfer portal hard and we get all 7 it’s would be a good start.

The scholarships have been down for a few years. It’s not something that will get fixed overnightZ the 2018 class basically is nonexistent at this point
