Dandy's had this link this morning. It is an interview by Sam Spiegelman on SEC Country.

quote:

SEC Country: Who was your favorite LSU player to watch as a kid?

Surtain: Patrick Peterson

SEC Country: Who was your favorite college football player to watch?

Surtain: Patrick Peterson

quote:

SEC Country: Who are the players, teammates that you would like to play with in college?

Surtain: Drew [Chatfield] and Tyson [Campbell].

quote:

SEC Country: Which college football team do you remember watching the most when you were growing up?

Surtain: LSU

SEC Country: What’s your fondest memory of the Tigers from that time?

Surtain: Them running out of the tunnel into the stadium

Where LSU wins in Patrick Surtain Jr.’s recruitment

quote:

It’s glaringly obvious that despite growing up in South Florida, Surtain’s “hometown” team has been LSU. Naturally, that’s a product of him following his parents, Patrick Surtain Sr. and Michelle Surtain, who grew up in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

When Surtain refers to the players running out of the tunnel, that’s a statement oft-mentioned by both the prospect and his father when discussing the emotional connection to LSU.
quote:

While Louisiana blood runs through Surtain’s veins, the U.S. Army All-American gravitated toward the Tigers on his own, according to his father.

quote:

At one point, LSU led for Chatfield before he committed to Ohio State. He de-committed and is now linked to the in-state Gators. being offered by Florida hasn’t deterred Dennis Johnson and Ed Orgeron from continuing to pursue Chatfield, who is expected to make an official visit to LSU in December or January. The Tigers are not out of it with Chatfield just yet.
quote:

The same goes for Campbell, Raymond has reconnected with Campbell and is certainly in play to host him for an official visit down the road. Remember that the American Heritage trio of Surtain, Campbell and Chatfield all took an unofficial visit to LSU together in the springtime and Campbell noted that he has legitimate interest in playing for Raymond.

Surtain is the next Patrick Peterson, period.

I hope he's in Purple and Gold doing it.

I will never stop being amazed at Raymond's ability to land elite CBs.

Surtain is a next level athlete like Pat Pete. That's for sure.

He’s an elite athlete, that’s for sure, but what sets Surtain apart from the rest is his technique. You dont see too many high schoolers as technically sound as he is. Kid could start day one at whatever college he chooses.

Doesn't hurt to have an all pro defensive back for a dad/ coach. Kid has been learning to be a CB from the crib.

I always kind of laughed at the so called experts that predicted him to go to Florida State. He is about as big an LSU lock as any recruit I've ever seen in the past 15 years.

An Florida player who hasn't committed to us and goes to a HS that is a huge pipeline to FSU and UGA is the biggest LSU lock you've seen in 15 years?

no, he didn't, he was LSU all the way and never hinted at wavering. Even when shills for other teams tried to create the impression that he was considering he'd basically quash it.

Would most (except for a few above, obviously) say we'd have to drop the ball in a most horrific way to lose Surtain at this point?

He knows he has a legit chance to start here next year if Toliver and Donté go pro.
