Standout Rummel receiver Ja'Marr Chase suffered a knee injury in the Rummel Raiders shellacking of Byrd High School Friday night, and there is cautious optimism that the damage may not be severe as many thought after witnessing the hyper-extension of his knee.

Initial concerns were that Chase may have suffered damage to his ACL or worse, but preliminary stability test have doctors optimistic about his prognosis. Chase had immediate swelling in his knee, which is often a sign of structural damage, but the swelling has subsided a bit in the 36 hours that followed, according to his father Jimmy Chase. Due to the hyper-extension, there is a belief that the injury may be to his PCL (posterior cruciate ligament), which connects the tibia and fibula bones.

Chase is scheduled to have an MRI on his knee Monday, which will reveal the extent of his injury.

Chase is currently an uncommitted prospect, following a decommitment from Florida last week. He has yet to release a top list of schools he intends to focus on down the stretch, but it is believed that LSU, TCU and Georgia are the three programs that have piqued his interest in recent weeks. Chase is one of the nation's top rated wide receiver prospects in the 2018 class.

I hope that he has a speedy recovery. He's fun to watch.

This is why these kids should stay committed and not play around too much. Make a commitment and stay committed. Doesn't matter if you change your mind. Long as you have signed on the dotted line. Now with him not being committed anywhere, if his injury is bad he may end up without a scholarship anywhere. I feel for the kid.

That's not how any of this works.

Wanna close on this kid. Put the full court press on now that he's hurt

So LSU is now hoping for injury just to try and sign top recruits now

Everyone saying he wants to go out the state of LA. Hope it’s outside the SEC.

It can be.

He's good enough, and it sounds like this injury isn't bad enough, that this won't matter.

But, it's not impossible to imagine a scenario where a kid "wants to leave home", has a catastrophic injury, and the out of state teams move on.

Or maybe his perspective about being away from home changes. Either way, LSU will be fine with the guys who will sign. Some nice receivers coming in.

There is nothing binding with a verbal commitment. Just because a kid is verbally committed, the school doesn't have to honor it.

That's technically true. But, most schools will honor the scholarship if a kid is committed. I know LSU has in the past. While not 100% guaranteed, there is real value in being committed.

That's true. Your first comment made it seem like you thought there was something binding. We're on the same page

I don't think you understand what a commitment is or means. A verbal commitment doesn't guarantee the player will be given a scholarship. The school or the player can back out of a commitment at any time before the player signs a National Letter of Intent and the first time a player can sign that pledge is in February of their senior year. For football that is. For other sports there is other times when a player can sign a Letter of Intent. So, even had he stayed committed to the gators that doesn't mean the Gators staff would still honor their offer. It depends on what's found during the MRI if schools will still offer him a scholarship.

I'm just saying I hope this guy heals up and can continue playing football at a high level. However, being not committed at this time, and the damage to his knee a huge question, lots of teams that were interested may no longer be. However, had he made a commitment and took it seriously, he may be in a better situation today than he is right now. A school would be really shitty to drop a kid after accepting his commitment due to injury. However, unfortunately, Ja'Marr did not feel keeping his commitments were important. He should not have played around with committing to Kansas just to spite LSU and then changing to Florida, only to see the coach and program crash and burn. Now he's sitting in a bed he created and will have to live with it. Hopefully, he comes through ok, but I'm not shedding any tears.

You’re stupid. That’s the easiest way to put it.

He committed to Kansas to spite LSU? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

He’ll be just fine and successful wherever he ends up.

Good for him. Not a risk we need to take.

Kid has commitment issues and injury issues.

Now can't take the risk that he will not be committed to his rehab.

Kansas will be a good landing spot for him.
