4-star RB Harold Joiner admits he’s been close to giving a commitment

MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. — If it were up to Harold Joiner, the nation’s No. 5-ranked running back would be committed.
Of course, that isn’t the case.
Joiner, a 4-star prospect from Alabama, had originally planned on making a decision ahead of his senior season — or at least early on. The U.S. Army All-American has toyed with the idea of giving a verbal pledge and knows the school he would choose. However, his father advised patience, which is why Joiner is expected to take up to four official visits before finalizing his plans in December.
The plan, Joiner said, is to wrap up his senior season at Mountain Brook (Ala.) High School and head to San Antonio, Texas, committed. He already has a strong idea of which school he’s favoring.
“I’ve thought about it,” Joiner told SEC Country when asked if he’s been close to committing. “My dad is telling me to hold off and wait. He’s telling me to wait because I’m putting some other schools in it that need a running back, not just want one, and I can see who gets drafted and what running backs [my top] schools pick up.
“I’m pretty confident it’s LSU. I wanted to commit somewhere and I’ve thought of committing somewhere early, as early as last month, but my dad wanted me to hold off.”
The Tigers have been out in front for the 6-foot-3, 218-pound tailback on and off since the spring. Early on, Joiner named LSU as his top school, given the Tigers’ need for backs in 2018 with the impending departures of senior Darrel Williams and junior Derrius Guice. That faded quickly after the team landed commitments from Chris Curry and Tae Provens, but running backs coach Tommie Robinson worked feverishly to again improve LSU’s standing with Joiner.
Joiner has made his top school obvious since visiting last month for the Auburn game. He has sported purple-and-gold Tigers gloves the last few weeks to symbolize the direction he’s leaning and provided this rationale for why LSU is out in front.
“It just feels at home,” Joiner explained. “I fit in great there. The coaches don’t lie to me and I know who I have to beat out. I know who’s leaving and it should be good there. The coaches are honest with me and Coach T-Rob knows I can play my freshman year.
“I know I can at least rotate in my freshman year, but I know I need to get developed and learn the playbook. But it shows me that he’s up front with me and honest and won’t lie to me.”

I'm sure it has helped LSU's pitch that Canada's offense doesn't have rigidly defined positions. Joiner is a somewhat unconventional body type for RB but he can rest assured Canada will find ways to get him the ball.

Reading stuff like this makes me really glad O went out and got Tommie Robinson. He busts his arse on the recruiting trail and I believe he actually is a good RB coach. His recruits respect him and always say he's upfront and real with them, which is a good look for LSU.

Why have one when we can have all three? LSU's 2011 team was a RB by committee. I see 2018 being the same.

Joiner is a lock IMO.
If Pooka can make the grades I’d rather him than Provens.

I doubt we take all 3. I'd take Provens just because he is so pro LSU.

Why wouldn't you take all 3, our running back position is very thin after this year, so having all 3 come in next year would be great. Plus Provens is an early enrollment

Have you looked at our RB depth for next year?
brossette, Little Fournette, Edwards-Hilaire...we need to take at least 3 backs. Maybe more.

I'd take the three, but not more than that

Agree
3 then 2 or 3 next year.
Keep rb position stocked.
Hopefully we will get at least 2 out of 4 next year out of -
T. Davis 4 star (committed)
N. Cain 5 star
J. Emory 4 star
D. Glass 4 star

Absolutely. Provens isn't going anywhere, unless T-Rob goes.
Pooka is likely the backup plan to Justin Watkins- probably (but not necessarily) only get 1 of them.
However, they are all 3 ideal for Canada's offense.
Im kinda surprised that Tony St Julien hasnt garnered an offer yet, too. He's probably next up for an offer, or else its Craig Williams from Texas, unless they decide to push for Slade Bolden instead.
I think Oeaux offered Slade but without much input from Canada, and Canada dug his heals in about it and snubbed Bolden - never talked to him, which fact pushed Bolden to uAL - he was all LSU otherwise.

Joiner reminds me of Alfred blue. Definitely a take.

We don't need three. Better with one or two and more linemen.

No, they are all 3 needed.
They are not all three RB per se, as one (Provens) is a scat back, wing bvack, slot redeiver-back type, who will play slot WR as much as RB - chiefly running jet sweeps as much as anything else; he is designated as an "ATH" (which stands for ATHlete) for a reason, not as a RB. The other two are the more traditional RBs, but 1 of them even (i.e., Joiner, not committed yet, offcially) is the size of a tall FB, a TE, H-Back, F-Back, but moves like a RB 6 inches shorter; the other is a more traditional between the tackles RB who is like a ramrod with wiggle.
We don't need 5 or 6 OL with Chasen Hines, a top OG, switching to NG, but available if we need him, and Dare Rosenthal, a Top10 OT playing DT, but likewise, if it ever came to it, he could be called upon for any necessary depth. Further, longer term, Glenn Beal, the big in-line blocling TE in the class is a candidate to play LT on the OL with weight gain and strength conditioning and OL training, in the mold of Dillon Gordon. So thats 3 hidden OL available if ever needed.
But we need to transition to 2019 when we get our big time OL class across the board, likely taking 5 or even 6, so we need 5 or 6 slots open for the 2019s. Hopefully, Will Clapp, Brumfield, and Toby Weathersby all return on the OL, such that we only lose KJ Malone to graduation and we already lost Maea and others to transfer. Replacing 2 and adding 2, along with the hidden depth should be enough to bridge us over to 2019. Thats one reason why the JUCO OL guys are so appealing in 2018, they come in, plug and play, either starting or high level depth, then matriculate out making room for 2019s and 2020s.
What we need are 2 good/great quality QBs, and 5 WRs.
