Look at jalean philips he was barely a 3 star his junior year and by the end of his senior year he was the number one composite 5 star recruit in the country. Star rankings are to hard to gauge they rely more on how many camps guys can go to. Racey mcmath should have been ranked higher but he didn't really work the camps as much as other kids. Stars also generally start off lower to allow for potential growth.

Sad day when we try to measure talent solely by reply recruiting

I am trying not to "star gaze" but this does seem like a strange recruiting cycle, right?
11 commits already? With more 3 stars than 4 stars (0 5 stars)
Florida State has 7 total. Ohio State has 4. Alabama has 4.
We are the only current top 10 team (minus Kansas) with less than 50 percent of our commits being 4 star or higher.
No one else finds this just a little concerning?

You will see once they finish their high school career and are still committed to LSU then after a year or two in our system. You will see why we offered those little ole 3*s. It's because our coaches know what talent is and how it projects, these coaches actually do and it's been proven over and over. Now that they are at LSU they have their pick of these type of players. They will land some big names as well but remember we need to fill it up this year, and they are doing just that. Once these guys put up great numbers their senior year they will get bumped and if not they will once they are all SEC players. GT

LSU signed 8 three star players in 2017. This class will be just fine.

You can't really go by some of these star ratings because some of these kids are much better than their ratings. I'm sure LSU has checked them out good before offering and now that LSU has offered watch how their ratings change. lol A lot of time they're rated based off the level of the competition(school ranks) they are playing against, but you don't really know how good they are or can be going by that. This Cole Smith kid could be an animal at center for them once he puts on more mass and muscle and gets up to 300 or more.

Just wondering why LSU is now going after all these 3* players

Same reason Bama does in March.

If I recall, JJ Watt was a 2 star. There's a world of difference from HS to college and the coaches who can recognize and bring out whatever it is they see in a lower ranked guy is going to be a very successful coach!!

Just wondering how long you have been following recruiting to ask a question like that. This is normal. Many kids haven't been properly evaluated by the recruiting services yet.

If LSU was going to recruit based on what some recruiting so-called guru says then we could do away with
Camps, personal evaluations, etc. and we could fire Austin Thomas. Let's just ignore our own staff and go with 247 or Rivals says. Yeah that would be great.

Much higher success rate if we look for the Fournettes and Petersons

This is not true. Marshawn Lynch-4 stars, Hightower-4 stars, the Gronk-4 stars, Byron Maxwell-4 stars, Vince Wilfork- He was maybe before the time of stars but I guarantee he would have gotten 4.

Coaches look at players not stars.

Immediately came to mind. Have a feeling this "3 star" is going to give a lot of five and four stars nightmares.

When the Patriots and Seahawks played the 2015 SB, not one starter on either side of the ball on either team had been rated higher than 3* out of high school.

I fricking hate when people say shite like this.

A. There are far fewer higher ranked guys.

B. Look at the top 10 in COLLEGE FOOTBALL each year and how it correlates to recruiting rankings each year.

That being said, these are very early rankings and most of these guys will get big jumps in rankings. Offer sheets are a much better gauge at this point and Aranda/Canada are both elite coordinators making these evaluations and handing out offers.

Really think this kid has superstar potential. For a lot of reasons.

Loved reading about his development, personality, and family. I'll look for the article.

Y'all just offered and got a commitment from a 3 star ol from MS

Recruited him specifically as a Center to fill a need. Centers are never rated that high.

I believe LSU hired the best staff it's ever had this offseason, I've heard from some players that this offense will take about the same step the defense did when Aranda was hired possibly even better with the hiring of Robinson and Joseph. Look our TEs coach went from being the best coach on that side to the 4th best this offseason. This team is finally going to be confident, and actually play as a team for the first time in a long time. I'm telling you this team will be better than bama next year but won't have the talent depth bama does so we may still lose but if we do it won't be by much. Once the nation takes notice we will then get the great players and finally make Saban retire then take over the SEC again, or restore NWO. GT
