Maybe LSU will spend big time $ for an elite HS edge. It doesn't appear that they value elite HS corners and Lbers as much.

Corners & Backers are easier to find traits and develop (or go into the portal for).

Agree with that sentiment. Interesting LSU may be going after this guy with Bryant already committed.

Perhaps you have a problem with Kiffin and Glasscock’s approach. You do realize they pulled out of the bidding on Dobson and have already pivoted their emphasis away from K. Henderson at LBer.

Different body and skillets. Think SDE and WDE. Green isn't a hand down kid. He's pure edge. Bryant is hand down exclusively.

Why? We landed 2 5* DTs last year(Brown is not gonna be a DE long term) and it certainly seems to be the plan. 2 top guys on the edge board are Green and Whitehead. Both within 5* range. After them you have Antwan Jackson who's more along the lines of Bryant and not a 5* but will be compensated like one. Seems the money for edge/DE is allocated. Just have to close one of them, while also coaxing Bryant across the line, which is far from a done deal. No staff expects to land every kid on their board but do expect to land the number they want of the guys that are on the board.
7 figures for a DL is far different than 7 figures for a CB(Dobson). Much easier to find CBs and certainly easier to portal.

Naivety has nothing to do with it. LSU signing two 5 stars is nothing out of the ordinary. Not sure why it seems so earth shattering to sign two 5 star edge guys in a given cycle. It’s very early. I’ll give u that.

Ole Miss's pass rush was worst last year than 2024 and 2023 however they had a better pass defense. You know why? Because of the QBs. Before 2025, Ole Miss's pass defenses from 2021 to 2024 were between the mid 50s and mid 80s in that span the SEC was loaded with good to heisman level QBs. Seriously go look at the QBs Ole Miss played just the last 2 years where they had way better pass rusher, but both pass defenses were in the 70s and 80s. I've always thought Ole Miss's CB play was bad outside of Trey Amos, and when Matt mentioned it, I 100% understood why. They don't prioritize it. That's why I'm glad we have Raymond.
I'll give you another point. Look at LSU's pass rush in 2022 compared to their pass defense. LSU was almost a top 30 pass defense while playing air raid Leach who's QB threw for 3900 yards and 35 TDs. Bryce Young's final year, a 6th year senior in Jordan Travis, a 5th year in Hendon Hooker who was having a heisman level season before injury. You could say KJ Jefferson had a similar season to Gunner Stockton's 2025 year and Stetson Bennett was a better version of Carson Beck from 2025. Even first year Jaxson Dart was average at worst. Now go check how good they were in getting to the QB in 2021 and compare it to the pass defense. You know what the difference was? LSU had a bad secondary in 2021, but the 2022 secondary. LSU had all these heavily experienced multi year starting CBs and safeties we got out of the portal. Bernard-Converse, Mehki Garner, Greg Brooks, Joe Foucha, added to guys like Jay Ward who was already here.
I will say it again. A good secondary can hide a mediocre or bad pass rush. We had a top 40 pass defense despite being middle of the road in sacks and pressure. We also played a much better group of QBs than Ole Miss did. A good pass rush can only hide a bad secondary if the QB isn't really good. This year there are many playmakers at QB in the SEC. Several are legit dual threat studs.
When you get a top tier pass defense with a top tier pass rush, you get the 2016 LSU defense (5th in country), or the 2010 and 2011 defenses.

3) People who put pressure on QBs
The reason that's different than the high degree of spending you see in the NFL on Skill Players/Secondary is that they feel that in college, if you can pressure a QB, he's more likely to make a bad decision or miss a target. In the pros, when you can put the pressure on, if you don't get home, they'll make you pay.
