The showcase circuit is starting for the rising seniors. PG National is the current event happening. I didn't find any reports on LSU commits for day one but there was some info from Day 2 on one of LSU's northern commits (via Frankie Pilliere of D1 Baseball):
He's not going to be the easiest to hold on to if he keeps showing out like this.
quote:
Nicholas Storz (RHP/OF, Brooklyn, N.Y.) stood out on a day that was defined by its booming batting practice performances. And on a day when many players left scouts with their jaws on the floor, it was Storz that wowed the most. A primary pitcher, we are left wondering just what we will see from Storz do on the mound that could top his batting practice performance on Thursday. The massive 6-foot-6, 245 pound rising high school senior launched some massive home runs to center field and left field, shots that drew gasps from scouts. He’s freakishly strong and the sound off his bat was like no other player we saw on this day. Storz is an LSU recruit.
He's not going to be the easiest to hold on to if he keeps showing out like this.

LSU has several 2017 commits participating:
Trent Vietmeier
Tanner Allen
Daniel Cabrera
Nicholas Storz
Devin Fontenot
Mason Doolittle
Stephen Keller
John Kodros
There may be more, that's all I noticed going through the rosters.

Updated with the Williams signing makes 3 players that pass on LSU for MLB
That is the most we have lost to MLB draft in a long time, right?

Apparently Williams never signed. I don't think he would have qualified considering he graduated a year early from homeschool. I bet his transcript was a mess.

So if I am reading this correctly, Jake Slaughter may only be here for 2 years. He will be 21 years old by the time the 2018 MLB draft rolls around.

Slaughter, Hess, Smith, Watson, and Reese all fit that category from what I can tell. I may be off on Smith.

Damn that's all but 1 infielder in this class if you count woley as a catcher. I'm curious to see where woley plays.

So I was looking at JUCO stats just to see what kind of players were out there that will be sophomores next year. I just saw that a kid from Ruston played at Hutchinson in Kansas and led all of JUCO with 31 HRs.
Caden Doga
I know of no contact between him and the staff, but 31 HRs in 58 games is loud. Even with a 23% K rate.
He also had 5 outfield assists.

That some ridiculous power. However I see he had 7 errors playing in the outfield, that's a bit much. Sounds like a definite DH but a huge power guy.

Jake just destroyed a HR to put his team up over top team in the league. Not sure I can link, it's on his Dad's Facebook.

Slaughter's stats so far for summer league:
.273/.415/.485 7 BB, 6 K, 1 Dbl, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB, 4 CS
.280 BABIP (may be a victim of bad luck currently), .212 ISO (only Deichmann and Romero has higher ISO numbers for the season)

Jacob Pearson just decommitted from Mississippi State.
Please God let him go to LSU. Best hitter I've ever seen growing up. First time I saw him play was in a tournament at 8 years old. He was intentionally walked every at bat except 2. I was baffled as to why anyone would intentionally walk an 8 year old. Then he got to swing and promptly hit the ball 240-250.
Kid is a monster. Perfect Game All American this past year as a junior. Would be a HUGE pickup if LSU could sway him, and actually get him on campus.

Oh damn, that's big news. He's a top tier player for 2017.

More info on Nicholas Storz from the PG National Showcase (once again from D1 Baseball):
He's listed as a pitcher commit for LSU. I would hope that if (big if, the way things are going) he gets to campus we treat him more like Luken Baker (TCU) and Brendan McKay (Louisville) and let him hit and pitch.
ETA: I'm looking through PG's site for testing results from National. I'll add them to this post as I find them.
2017 C Mason Doolittle had the second fastest pop time so far at 1.81 seconds.
Nick Storz tied for the 6th fastest fastball at 94mph.
Exit Velocity recordings from batting practice (in MPH):
Nick Storz - 102 (2nd highest)
Daniel Cabrera - 93

Nicholas Storz (RHP, Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the story of batting practice on Thursday, putting on a monstrous display of power and he again showed power on Friday, this time on the mound. The 6-foot-6 righty worked at 89-93 mph with his fastball, showing heavy life through the zone. He also showed a sharp 76-78 mph slurve. Storz is an LSU commit.

Devin Fontenot (2017 RHP, The Woodlands, TX) (2017 RHP, The Woodlands, TX) came out and lived at the bottom of the strike zone with his fastball that topped out at 91 mph, showing command to either side of the sinking life. He was able to induce ground ball contact and showed a feel for a late breaking slider up to 75 mph. He punched out six over his two innings of work.
