One of the USC classes under Carroll had 7 or 8, I believe. However, that included JUCO 5 stars, who were very inflated in the early years of rankings.

I am still beyond puzzled that Gamble is expected to be a part of this class.

Gamble probably does need to walk on as LSU will badly need that scholarship

I think everyone is because that scholarship is important.

Couldn't they ask Cameron Gamble to walk on?

I think that is the plan - to free up a spot - he'll either Gray Shirt or be offered preferred walk-on status - there is always attrition to free up schollies under the 85. I'm just not clear on how he counts, once he comes onto scholarship.

I've heard the number all year is 27 - but I'm not sure how that syncs up with the SEC's oversigning rule.

Don't you think it would be cool to have the record?

not only that, we also have a legit shot at edging out 2010 Florida to be greatest recruiting class in the internet era

He doesn't even start for his school team. He does seem to be the best kick off specialist in the country, but especially with the new 25 yard line rule on touchbacks, I'm not seeing the importance for another special teams scholarship.

And I am usually the last person to complain about special teams scholarships.

Which USC class are we talking? Because I have a feeling they combined these 5*s.

Example

John Doe is a 5* on rivals and a 4* on scout

Billy Ed is a 5* on scout and a 4* on rivals

USC counts this as 2 5*s

Well we seem to be the only team that has followed this rule over the best 2-3 years. Auburn, Bama, Tamu, Tenn all will and have signed over 25 players. There are ways around it. But you still have to get to 85 and it looks like we may have no problem with that with the srs leaving a few transferring and a few leaving early.

good call. 247 says they never signed a class with more than 6 5*

Unconfirmed, but I thought someone said he was TOPS eligible.

Yes they signed over 25, but they did so in a way that is consistent with us being limited to 25. To figure this out you have to be pretty intimate with their signing over the past two years. When they oversign, they probably had a year where they didn't sign many and they were able to count some backwards.

In our case, the problem is when Fanaiko (sp?) and I think it was Peterson failed to qualify a couple of years ago. With the stricter interpretation, we lost those ships and had to use 2 more when they signed. Other than those two we signed full classes. So if those two counted twice, and I think they did, we have no ability to backcount to increase the number over 25.

I know this isn't a great explanation but I'm short of time and will be gone for a few hours.
