Its important to remember that kids mature at different times. I'm convinced that 50% of 5*s are just good players who matured and were stronger or bigger than everyone. 3 and 4*s, if watched closely, are kids who are just hitting their growth/maturity stage late. 5*s mostly have blossomed, while the late bloomers peak in a couple of years in college.
That's partly true sure, but you also notice when a 5* doesn't pan out or when a 3* does but don't really when a 5* pans out and a 3 doesn't. Fournette and Garrett where the top 2 ranked players in 2014 and went in the top 4.

The star system isn't supposed to be a guarantee in the first place. It's just a measure of how much impact a player is expected to have at the next level. I still can't see how some of you can't understand the concept of the star system. Just based on statistics alone, there SHOULD be a high number of 2 and 3 star prospects in the NFL. But if you look at that number per capita, it drastically drops. I don't know that exact figures but i'd willing to bet that 5 star prospects are somewhere in the 3/5 range, 4 stars are probably somewhere around 1/5, as where 3 and 2 stars are closer to 1/10.

Give me my choice of 5 star and 4 star recruits, I get my choice of any 25 every year. After year 3 my team will win in a big way. No one will win every game but this team will dominate.
Simple, not every 5 star will be in the NFL, a few will be bust but most turn out a very good college players and quite a few end up in the NFL.

Hire good coaches who know how to evaluate, and then coach players, and forget the star ratings.
