Water looked to start about 1/4 mile past Keith youngs steakhouse going south but cops were there blocking the road. I would suspect most of downtown madisonville is under water. I know they're have already been reports of this but MAD is takin it on the chin today

My mom started teaching my junior year (2005-06) so it would have been after you

Why again were all the protections put in for the southshore but little to nothing for the northshore?

Because we aren't below sea level like the southshore.

Levees would not have helped. The flooding is not from tidal surge.

The mouth of the river is plugged by the Lake being full. So when it rains, the river doesn't drain. So all the rain falling in the Tchefuncta river basin is just filling up the basin.

A very big pump in Lake Ponchartrain would help.

The water has been falling for a couple of hours, so if they didn't have water in the house at 6, they are probably ok.

Can anyone on here recommend a roofer? Hope I don't need a new roof again.

TIA

This makes me sick, I love this area so much.
I've been wanting to move to the Northshore and now I might have to rethink this.

I think the Lake is full because of the storm surge, i.e., the orientation of Isaac is almost ideal for shoving water into Lake Pontchartrain. The levees on the southshore and eastern St. Tammany almost ensure the water being shoved in is going to be channeled into Mandeville, Madisonville, etc.

Don't know what the answer is but the flood protection elsewhere is a factor in the flooding being experienced there.

When I was looking at homes here on the Northshore in 2000, I made sure that anything I looked at within 2 miles of the Tchefuncte was elevated several feet. Still, didn't feel safe and went farther west from it.

There is no way to build levees on every branch of the river.

It's mostly the fact that the storm went west of us in Mandeville/Madisonville. Storm goes west, like Lili, surge piles up on Northshore...storm goes east of us, like Katrina, surge piles up on southshore. It's the wind.
