Zoysia was laid on June 24th and has been doing great until the last week. Have kept it pretty high using my Ego set at 6-7. Last mow went down to 5 and noticed the yellowing underneath. Also have considerable thatch.

Does this look like a fungus ? It has been pretty dry here and have watered deep three times a week. Also, should I rake the thatch out with a flexible rake ?
TIA

From best I can tell from the pics, the yellowing is just from it being tall and then getting cut short. I wouldn't worry about that.

Not sure about the thatch. Seems like it would be too new for that.

Best way to get rid of that is to burn it in the spring before it starts greening up. Not everyone can do that but its one of the best things you can do for it.

Thanks for the reply. It has been kept tall since I installed it in June. Brought the Ego down a notch to 5 on Saturday. It was green and thick all summer.

Looks like mine when It gets too tall and I cut it back to my normal 2" height.
It tends to get yellow at the base of the blades. If you continue to knock it down in length, you'll see that each time till it's where you want to keep it.

I kept it pretty high since I installed in June. Are you saying that your Zoysia greened back up once you kept it at 2” ?

I let mine grow in for a while, but I maintain mine at 2" which is on the upper end of what I've read is ideal. And yes, it greens up with fresh growth. It tends to have yellow lower stems and is always VERY thick and lots of thatch. It grows so thick that the clippings just sit on top. That can be an issue
