Would this work: cementing pole in ground with a ball mount for trailer storage/loading/u

Basically, due to HOA restrictions, I can't put a portable shed in my yard, and I'm not going to build a shed with materials to match my house (brick, shingle roof, etc). But I can have trailers parked at the rear of my lot.

Trying to outsmart the system. I'm in the market for a utility trailer (6 x 12 or so) anyway, so I was thinking of buying an enclosed trailer instead, and using it essentially as an extra storage room. Preferably I'd like to store my zero-turn mower and a couple other things in there.

The issue, I don't want to have to drive my truck through my yard and hook up the trailer every time I want to load/unload the mower for use. So I was thinking about cementing a pole into the ground with a ball mount on it, and anchoring the trailer to it when parked. Would this, along with wheel chocks and stabilizer jacks, be enough to secure the trailer when loading/unloading a mower?

Or should I just make due with the small built-in storage room I have that will basically be full once the mower is parked?

Also, any other reasons storing a mower in am enclosed trailer permanently is a bad idea? We're in a safe neighborhood, so I'm not worried about theft.

2 pavers and 2 jacks on the rear to stabilize it. No need to build something for the ball to sit on, that’s what a trailer tongue jack is for.

Once it’s full - how you going to move it if it’s sitting on a concrete mounted ball?

Honestly didn't think about that. Since it would be primarily storage for the mower and a just a few other bigger items like that (pressure washer, etc), I'd unload those whenever I needed to move the trailer to hook up to the truck. But now I'm wondering how much of an ordeal that would be. Like, how hard would it be to swing the trailer to the side by hand just a few feet to move to/from truck/pole?

I obviously haven't worked out all the kinks, but that's where y'all's help comes in!

I've read differing opinions if this would be stable enough when loading/unloading a mower. Let's just say probably 900 lbs combined for the mower and driver.

Maybe I don't. Reading other forums and stuff and there seems to be concerns of rocking/rolling when loading/unloading a trailer not anchored to a vehicle.

Get a couple concrete blocks and place under back end of trailer and make sure u adjust trailer so they are touching the blocks and it will work just fine.

This or check out the RV stores. They have blocks and jacks for this. I'd think the HOA would be pissed about the permanent mount for the trailer

I guess my only concern is if the force applied to the trailer when the mower is driven up the ramp would be enough to shift the trailer forward and off the blocks or stabilizer jacks. I'd obviously chock the wheels too.

I maybe completely overthinking this, but just trying to prevent any issues.

They are trying to tell you what to do with the property you bought?

I have 2 trailers i use in my lawn service, both have blocks under the rear of trailer when they aren't hooked up to turck and i run my zero turns on and off and the trailer does not move, and yes chock the wheels for sure, but that's really all it is to it, don't waste money on any additional jacks, the cheap ole blocks work just fine.

Awesome, thanks! I figured someone would have experience (good or bad) doing this.

you are over thinking this

put trailer in spot you want

add 12x12 pavers at each corner of trailer frame and put small jack stands there to hold it or jack it up and use cinder blocks to lift all 4 corners off the axles and you are good to go

nothing is permanent and its endlessly relocateable

Have you asked about a covered overhang off the back of your house that isn’t completely closed in? We have similar restrictions in our HOA and we have let this go if it isn’t visible from the street.

Just build your shed and attach wheels to the side and add a aftermarket tongue to the front. HOAs suck, but if they're going to hassle you, they'll do it whatever you do. If you must, buy an old boat trailer (don't need a title). Block it underneath with cinder blocks. Build your shed upon the frame and voila! It's the letter of the law, not the spirit. You can make the rear door a drop down ramp and have an access door on the front for your smaller items. Many boat trailers have a removable tongue so you can even get that out of the way.

DO NOT encourage and enable this arse!
don’t be THAT frickin guy, always one in every neighborhood, you bought there cuz it’s nice then immediately think of ways to circumvent the HOA to trash the place, you’ll be the 1st MF bitching to the same HOA about property values dropping and fail to look in your own backyard, follow the fricking rules or sell and move to the GD country or a trailer park (pun intended) where you can do whatever the frick you want, JHC frick you people...
Side note: your handle fits you perfectly, you chose wisely, it shows your ignorance and arrogance...
YES, I’m THAT guy, preserving and improving the value of OUR neighborhood, I’ll see you at the next HOA meeting...

How is he being "THAT frickin guy" when he is obeying the rules of the HOA? If the rules state he can have a trailer then what's the problem.

Maybe you are "THAT frickin guy" that no one likes to live next to...the one always complaining about other peoples shite and calling the HOA because someones grass was 1/4 inch to long.

He's a dumbass. It's BECAUSE I'm trying to follow the rules of the HOA that I'm putting so much thought into this.

yep, THAT guy, that does the absolute minimum to “comply” with HOA rather than doing what you can to contribute and improve the community thus increasing its value, yes you are THAT guy...
Read the 1st two paragraphs of your opening comments dumbass!
“and I’m not going to build a shed with materials to match my house (brick, shingle roof etc)” AND “Trying to outsmart the system” is proof you are a cheap arse and have no intent on contributing to the improvement of value of your neighborhood, just the opposite it appears. You might think about deleting this entire thread, you might be called to explain it at the HOA meeting to discuss your application for your trailer shed...

I’ll be in the audience, providing comments and a petition when the opportunity presents itself...

Respectfully submitted,

Your neighborhood...
