I have a 6' fence with a row of savannah hollies in front of it. The hollies will give me privacy 20-25' high (when they are grown) and the fence gives me greater privacy at lower levels and keeps my dog in the back yard.

Oh yeah, and I paid for the fence and have the pretty side facing my yard. If my neighbors want to pay half, we can make both sides pretty. But they don't.

Jokes on you.

Your house is a presentation of you writ large. You're putting your best out there for all the world to see.

Imagine if the facade of your house were reversed. What about your roof? You want shingles on the inside and insulation on the outside?

That's what you've done with your fence.

Talk about reducing the curb appeal.

I prefer the brick column with black aluminum fencing between and hedges planted in front approach if you don’t need the full 8’ vertical privacy of a wood fence.

frick that I built runners out to my neighbor. I don’t want to look at that. He didn’t want to split cost of fence. I was going to double side my fence but oh well.

same

ETA: Why would I pay to give someone a pretty fence and me an ugly one? Makes no sense to me. (in the back yard) You put the pretty fence outward in the front because everyone sees it. In the back yard only you and your direct neighbors see it. If they don't want to split the cost, what do I care what the cheap people think?
