Whole home water filter

I self installed an ispring 3 stage with 50 micron pre filter.

Whole set up including pex crimp tools and 1" pipe was under 1k. Quotes were anywhere from 3-5k.

Works great for my issues, sediment and hard water. The sediment filter is usually caked with clay by the time I change it (every 6 months)

Filters can be ordered off Amazon for ~150 for three stages.

Install was stupid easy. I also plumbed in a by pass loop and pressure gauges on either side of the filters, let's me know when pressure drop is enough that filters should be changed.


If you know how to read directions and know where your main is running, I highly recommend diy install. It's easier than putting together IKEA furniture. Will save you at least 1-2k

I have well water at my camp, and it has a sulfur smell and a brown tint. I installed a small sediment filter and a 3-stage 20" filter system downstream of it, with the first stage being a 5-micron sediment filter, then a carbon filter, then an Iron and Magnesium Filter. The smell was eliminated but the brown tint was never fixed. I've also tried a GAC and KDF filter in the 3rd stage and it didn't help with the color.

If anybody has a recommendation to remove the brown tint that would be great!

Make sure you install a bypass to your filters so you can bypass them when changing them out and if you pressure-washing, filling a pool etc.

I didn’t measure, but I couldn’t discern any drop at all.

Just had a 5 stage Halo installed. Also replaced all of the plastic shut offs with brass ones.

ETA: Flushes itself every 9 days automatically (depends on water usage). 10 year warranty; I do nothing but enjoy filtered water for 10 years).

Second vote for the chief. Had it installed about a month ago and we are very happy with it
