Whole Home Generator DIY

Getting quotes and prices are all over the place. My question is, has anyone gone the DIY route when purchasing a whole home generator set up?
Purchase Generator (22KW)
SUB OUT: NG Line
SUB OUT: Electrician and hookup, transfer switch
PAD PLACEMENT: DIY
Iy seems the process is pretty straight forward but looking for input and advice from those that may have gone their route, and if any cost savings. (northshore area)

It’s quite a bit cheaper to go this route. I found 1 guy who could do the electrical and plumbing himself and I used a premade pad. Ended up with a 26kW for about 11,500 installed. Keep an eye on home depot and Lowe’s. They’ll run generator sales a deliver. I saved a bunch of money on the Memorial Day sale last year when I got mine.

It’s not a bad process to complete. Luckily I had the electricians put in a transfer switch when I built my house. All I had to do was build a pad and install the generator. There’s a guy on YouTube that walks through the process.
Generator install
You can buy the generator from Online Generator Seller
Total for a 26kw was maybe $6500.
Not too hard to run gas from my meter either. Again YouTube is your friend.

Yes I bought my generac, poured the slab, bought the generac all in one wire which is color coded at connections. Pulled my wire across the attic and made the drops on each end of the house. I installed a disconnect switch on the house on the generator side and mounted the transfer switch. My father in law is an electrician and just made the main connection for me. Paid a plumber to run the 6 feet of pipe for the gas. If I remember correctly the generator was just over $5k and the wire cost me $900 because I needed 120 feet and it’s $8-$9 a foot. May have been all in for $6500. This was in 2019 for a 22kw.

I'll be following this thread.
I currently have an old 10kW partial home generator. It's 25 years old and not serviceable anymore. Called 2 companies for a quote to replace. My pad is still good, natural gas is already plumbed to the area. Transfer switch has to be upgrade and I guess the wire from the generator to transfer switch would need to be changed but it's less than 10 feet.
For a 22kW replacement, I was quoted $15.7k and $17.6k. Asked both companies for an itemized breakdown of the quotes and neither have responded.
I can buy the exact generator they quoted at Costco with the transfer switch for $5500. No way there's $10k+ in labor/expertise

I was 10K all in on a 22KW last June. the installer (a commercial electrician) spent all day on install day replacing my main panel and installing the transfer switch. I basically wound up with a new electrical service downstream from the meter pan.
it is very unlikely I’d have come out ahead buying the genset and hiring an electrician
shop around on the generator & install. If in BR area I used chustz electric

no way!!!
I just bought from Northern Tool a 25KW liquid cooled Generac for $11,397.00
I already have the transfer switch installed when the house was built and poured the slab myself, I have a guy coming out to run the electricity and gas for around $1500.
