Where are you located?

If in BR, give Jim Stone (SiteOne) a call to determine availability. They may have some and if not, might be able to point you in the right direction.

its small so a full yard load by truck is way too much

i just need enough to cover a walking path 1 1/2" deep and 3ft wide by 40 ft long

so im thinking about maybe ten 5 gallon buckets worth

that's about half a yard which is just over a ton. So you’re looking at 2-3 pickup truck loads.

btw, you probably want to go thicker than 1.5". that's not much at all.

For reference, 10 filled to the top 5 gallon buckets (which would break anyway) would get you about 1/3 of the way down your path.

Crushed limestone is used so extensively that its widely available. Start in Laplace here...LINK /

If their minimum order is too big, ask them who is a nearby reseller. Even modest-size nurseries usually offer it.

Such a thin layer will be scattered by even lite foot traffic... make it thicker. In my experience smooth river gravel stays in place better and looks nicer. In a couple of years no matter how thick and what type you use, you will get a buildup of dirt in the gravel. That does lock the gravel in place but allows weeds/grass to invade. Plan on annual use of Roundup, pre-emerg and weeding. I have a friend in rural WA state who has a large gravel driveway. He cleans it with a propane torch normally used to heat asphalt road patches.

You need about 3/4 yard. Reliable Soils in st rose has it. You can probably
Pick up a small 3/4 yard there if you have a trailer to take it on. Probably should just get a yard and just use it.

You will want #8 limestone

That's not what the big box stores will have. It's the regular sized rocks.

Bulk Limestone is brought down mostly by barge, on the Mississippi River. In BTR, they have a crushed concrete plant off Florida Blvd.

I bought 10-12 bags of crushed marble. I think it was marble. It was white . Used in an area where we didn’t have gutters to stop the rain run off from splattering mud on the house. Worked great

I had a driveway done in crushed concrete and it seemed pretty similar to limestone.

Crushed concrete is cheaper....

Are there pros & cons?
