When to start treating lawn for Armyworms?

Title says it all.
Don’t wanna get hit with them like last year, the week before Halloween…..
Should I start treating now, or wait until later?

The birds have been eating them in the neighbors yard for a couple of weeks now.

Just be prepared. Walk your lawn every couple of days. If you don't have armyworms and your spray bifen you're going to feel confident that you're covered. Then through watering/rainfall, sunlight, etc the bifen will breakdown and the armyworms can attack. Meanwhile you think you still have them controlled.

I have found that granular insecticide works well for about a month. Many are labeled for 60-90 days but it seems like after 40 or so the results start to drastically slow down.
So, there’s not much you can do daily other than walk your yard a couple times a week and catch them early. But if you drop granular every 5-6 weeks you are pretty covered.

Interesting yet disheartening. I just laid a 25 lb. sack of granular Bifen yesterday.
I had an armadillo two consecutive nights. That prompted me to lay the Bifen. No armadillo last night.

New lawn for me and I see a small area that looks to have armyworm damage. I bought what I need last night and will treat today.
I went in the garage this morning and I have about 10 of these guys on the garage floor, and I see some on my back patio.
I’m definitely treating today.

Bifen is both a granular and a spray. You replied to the spray but put down granular. Granular is usually good for 30-60 days and maybe up to 90 depending on weather like rainfall. So I wouldn’t worry.
The nice thing about spray is you kill them overnight. Spray one day and everything is dead the next. If you have a problem and put down a granular it can take 2-3 days in my experience.

Walking part of my lawn, I found some alive ones and some dead ones. The alive ones were still bright green. I'm hopeful that the dead ones are a sign of what's to come.
How long would you wait before treating again? If I see more crawling in my garage or driveway in the next couple days, would that be alarming?

Did you water it in? You usually have to water in a granular?
I’m not the best person to ask about granular as I don’t seem to have the best luck. Spray kills them overnight pretty much 100%. The problem with spray is if you get rains or run your sprinklers a decent then it washes away in a few days, and the bugs will either hatch again or come back from your neighbors yard for stuff like moths.
So I always felt like both a granular and spray was the best coverall. But if you haven’t watered in your granular do that for sure and I’d allow a good 48 hours probably.

I don’t treat the moths. I always wait until I see signs of chewed blades then nuke them. Always worked for me.
