Water Softener / Purifier

Does anybody have any recommendations for a water softener/purifier for the whole house? Any experience with Culligan? What brands are worth looking into?

Rain Soft was here when we moved in, it's been easy enough. Refill salt twice/year or so, have changed the RO filter once in 8 years.

I used to install a lot of Aquasure Harmony units, however that was up north where the install was in the basement and the water main and sewer line were always in close proximity. Never had any callbacks for problems except for one customer who decided to try to change the settings and it stopped using the salt.
