Just like alot of people on the TD, I am a die hard LSU fan. I have been looking to add some purple and gold to my yard. I live on a 3 acre lot. We have our front, side and back yards clear of trees except for a couple of live oaks, cypress and magnolias we planted.

I was thinking of adding the Yellow Trumpet and Purple Jacaranda on the edge of the tree lines.

They both bloom in spring & early summer and think that purple and gold would look great.

My question is, does anyone on here have any experience with these 2 trees and can give me some advice?

Have a Jacaronda tree. Probably 12 years old now and it was planted from a 30 gallon container from tree farm. Slow growing. When they bloom they are really nice and colorful. .

The big Jacarondas trees are worth the wait while they grow as long as you don't plan on moving.

Tridentds,

Thanks for the info, may i ask what area you live in? Any issues with the winter?

I was told by a local nursery that Jacarandas would not grow in our area of North Louisiana, zone 8

We are in Richmond (Sugar Land), TX. Our tree is about 17’ from house. It is well protected from North Wind when it is really cold. Survived 3 hard freezes that killed 5 citrus trees and leveled about 40 mature oleanders.
