I know this is an old post but wanted to give an update for anyone else looking for untreated 4x4s in Baton Rouge.
Home Depot in Gonzales consistently carries 4x4x8 untreated Douglas Fir posts. Definitely bring a helper bc some boards are significantly heavier than others & you will have to go through 30+ boards to find 4 good ones.
I built a standing rolling desk with them & they’ve stayed as straight as an arrow so far. Really impressed!

Hmmm
You started this account in September of 2017, have never used it, and bumped a very old thread.
Interesting. And thank you for the tip about the four-by-four fir.

I can't find an untreated 4x4 anywhere near me
you can "make" that yourself, building the legs out of one by wood of your choice, the crap that they sell at HD is dipped I think, not really pressure treated, if you can find a couple of straight pieces you can probably sand down to get to the natural color

Depends on the kind of wood you want.
For kiln dried wood, Riverside Lumber in New Orleans. They may not have pine, they will probably have cypress,

Have you tried Service Lumber on Oak Villa, near the old Cortana Mall?

I prefer to laminate in this situation like I mentioned earlier in this thread but I noticed this week that Lowe’s in lake Charles started carrying untreated Douglas fir 4x4s that are about as perfect as you can ask for. They aren’t in the framing lumber isle, they’re on the isle with the poplar, oak, and premium pine.

Definitely one of the oddest bumps in TD history

The lumber is shipped with tons of preservative in it which makes it wet. Paint or stain won't soak in until it dries out.
It will also twist and check.

Just bought an untreated one from Home Depot in Gonzales. You just got to weed through the whole stack to get that one straight one!
