Can't paint or stain treated lumber!
That's just incorrect. I stained some treated posts that came out great but I was told to leave them alone for a couple months first to dry.

I've built a lot of furniture, and a straight 2x2 is like a fricking unicorn.

Sorrento Lumber.
You have to call in ahead. They take about a week to come in and are in 16 ft pieces.
I have ordered on 2 separate occasions in the last month. My 4x6 came in about a week later. My 4x4 came in 2 days later. They will cut them to size for you if you ask.

You don't want to do that, it won't be a perfect square because of the kerf of the sawmill blade. Four 2x2's will make a perfect square.
Glue then together and run it through a planar if you want to get the bevel off of the wood.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. You cant find them and most places cant even order them.
Try service lumber...
Or do what i did.. and glue two 2x4's together... not exactly 4x4.. but it'll do for whatever project you have going

Home Depot on Airline NBR has 67 in stock
Get them here. Denham Springs HD has them as well. I bought a few last week for a project. End of the aisle second shelf at the Denham store.

Try Service Lumber behind Cortana ... They have a lot of specialty wood if you're into furniture building like myself

A planed 2x4 is actually 1.5" x 3.5"

You can always make your own with the select pine at Home Depot.
