What's the best way to seal it? Spar urethane? Tung oil or just paint it? This cold weather is going to hinder sealing it for a while, huh?

You don't need to seal it at all.

If it’s outside in the sun and rain, nothing is going to last very long. Paint or nothing. I’ve heard some of the really really expensive varnishes actually have staying power but I’ve never tried them. Epifanes.

You’ll regret using poly on cypress for the exterior application. It’s going to look great for the first year but start to look like junk the years following and get worse. My vote is let it age naturally. If you are adamant, I’d use some sort of oil.

yeah, this isn't old growth cypress. I don't see leaving it unfinished as an option

CedarShield is the answer. It’s the best wood protection I’ve have ever used. Now I put it on all exposed wood.
