10 year old BadBoy has bitten the dust. I’m mowing ~2 acres, so looking for a residential model. Looking to keep the price in the $4k range. Welded deck with anything except a Briggs engine. Talk to me.

I haven’t ruled that out. Just wanted to test the waters with people who have different ideas.

I have had very good luck with Hustlers. I’m on my second, first one lasted 14 years when I traded it in. Current mower is 4 years old zero complaints. Just a little minor maintenance will keep them going for a long time

I do like the bad boys just haven’t owned one

I hate buying from big box stores, but this Cub Cadet might be what I’m looking for. Same deck gauge steel as Hustler with a Kawasaki (ideal for me) engine. Looks hard to beat. 50” deck, $3399.

Not a bad price, I really like the Kawasaki engines. They are simple and pretty easy to work on if need be. Basic upkeep should be plenty enough to keep it going for a while. Two acres is a pretty big piece to cut, but the comparable hustler will definitely cost more and last longer in my opinion. Hope it lasts 20 years for ya

I had an earlier version of that Cub Cadet 50” with the Kohler engine. Drove it hard for over a decade with no issues until the motor played out.

When it died last year I upped my game to a larger Bad Boy 54”, which has turned out to be a little too big for my yard.

That Cub Cadet was a good machine for the money in todays marketplace.

I just bought a Gravely ZT X 42". My first ZTR, so nothing to compare it to, but I like it a lot.

Just bought the same one. Love it. Cutting grass went from 2hrs with push mower to 40 mins with the gravely.

Welded deck

Id consider dropping this requirement. Stamped decks are fine and in some cases better. It'll vastly increase your options in your price range.

Itll take a decade to rot out if you totally neglect it and even then it'll be cheap to replace. A 14ga welded deck is actually weaker than a 14ga stamped deck and how long it lasts will depend purely on the quality of the paint job.

I too am considering that CC 50”. I’m going with welded deck after repeatedly hitting shite with my old mower with a stamped deck and bending it into the blades.

Love my BB Maverick HD 54” Honda. Built like a tank. The regular maverick looks nice too.

majority of the machines in that range will perform the same and have similar equipment ..(pick a color lol)if you can get a machine with serviceable hydros, that would be a bonus as zt-2800's (entry level truly serviceable hydros) will last a LONG time..same as the motor, just do the oil, plug, filter changes every year
