Mine are all growing back out for Spring - I have around 20 milkweed plants. I checked yesterday and I currently have about 30-40 tiny caterpillars already! This feels too early? My plants are only just growing out.
I guess I'll let nature take its course but these suckers are going to trim my plants back to stalks and be out of leaves in no time. Anyone have ideas on why they are here so early and if that is an issue? I'm going to feel bad when they run out of food. I have forbidden myself to buy any more plants, too.

My seeds are still not here. "In transit" in the post office. Hoping to get them planted in the next few weeks.
Still have 2-3 weeks for threat of a frost is over.

I have about 4-5"s of growth on my Milkweed that got whacked in the snow, found two little caterpillars on them this weekend. No flowers, dumb question, but is it a pheromone that leads them to the plant? Because when I say 4-5", it looks like just blades of grass.

Yep, I have had quite the production for several years so I know my monarchs. I was shocked to see so many. I haven't even seen a single one flying about to lay the eggs, but I am 100% positive these are monarch caterpillars.

I've seen a few up here in Big D. I think they were Fritillaries

So far 1 out of 10 milkweed seeds has germinated, but i just took about 8 more out of the fridge.
On a related note, i had a giant swallowtail chrysalis on my back door for the past 7 months. With the freezes i was sure it was dead but it emerged today. It didn’t open its wings or fly for a few hours so i thought it must be defective. I was so bummed i didn’t take a pic or anything, but it just flew off!
