TIL: Why Painters Charge So Much

I have finally finished what may be the most miserable experience of my life. We added a garage to our house and added a patio off the back of it. Got a few quotes for painting that seemed extremely high, so I decided to paint it myself. HOLY shite I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO.
It took me three weeks of sporadic nights and afternoons to finish. Had to caulk hundreds of nail holes in the white trim, clean up countless stain drips, used three rolls of masking tape and went up and down my ladder at least 1,000 times. To top it off it took five trips to Sherwin Williams.
So today I learned why painters charge so much and they are worth ever penny. I may never touch a paintbrush ever again.

Looks great.
You should have posted here earlier, I would have recommended buying one of the little Wagner HVLP Sprayers, and you could have cut your time in third or better. Tape off your trim/areas you're painting, spray stain. Come back, tape off the rest, spray paint. Second coat of paint and you're done.

New addition looks good though!
As soon as my wife picks a color we are doing damn near a full interior repaint minus trim/moldings, walls and ceilings. I'm dreading it.

We tried to get around the two interior posts but it was too much to span. Also have the attic set up to do storage so it will carry an additional load. Covered area is right around 900sqft.
A divorce would be less effort.

I paid $30k to have entire interior of my house painted. Pretty steep but was worth it imo.

My buddy got a quote for his house: $43k.

I’m jealous of your yard and new garage. Have an upvote

Painting is misery for a middle-aged man who doesn't want to be separated from multiple tens of thousands of his hard earned money.
Sore muscles for weeks, but worth it if you're a skin flint like most of us.

This is a false statement. You might not have wanted to pay for the solution but there is a solution.

Yes I also had sticker shock when getting quotes for painting entire interior of my house
2000sq ft, 3 stories….quotes ranging from $7k-$20k
Everyone (specifically realtors) always says “painting is easy, don’t worry about the paint color when buying a house cause that’s an easy fix”…. Don’t believe it
