Looking for a solution to my backyard ant problem. They seem to laugh at my Spectricide granules. I looked at a few threads and saw people had good results with Taurus SC, but it says it isn't for broadcast use. Do people just spot spray the piles? Looking at either that or just sticking with Bifen.

The active ingredient in Tarus SC is fipronil. An absolutely fantastic product. I'm not telling you to broadcast it but if you don't tell anyone then who will know?

talstar works great, full lawn application does not harm the lawn and keeps the ants/piles away.

For ants and other normal yard bugs, bifen granules do the job. I only use products with fipronil when I feel I have to. Carpenter ants get that business.

Bifen is a better product to use in the yard. It's not water soluable like fipernil

I was basically saying there’s different uses. Didn’t bring up the residual.

I was just agreeing with you about using Bifen for the yard for ants. I have had better control of ants if you treat the whole yard. I use the liquid Bifen since my lot is an acre

for fire ants specifically, apply ant bait every 3 months or so. Amdro is the brand, and make sure it says "bait" (similar label to regular ant control). I haven't had fire ants in my backyard in years of using this stuff

Bifen granules have worked in the high areas of the yard and I use a basic Scotts rotary spreader.

There is a liquid I have used, you mix very little in a pump sprayer, that you spray the entire perimeter of your property with and you will not see an ant for 6 months to a year. I can't remember what it is called now. My buddy who works in the engineering department of a major cellular company told me about it years ago and how that is what they use on all of their cell tower sites.

Just remembered, Termidor is it.

That is Fipronil, at my old house where ants were a problem I would spray the perimeter of the house with the product and we'd be ant free until the next spring. It kills damn near everything though so I wouldn't broadcast it and risk killing beneficial bugs.
