I have a camp that is about 1k sqft that currently has an electric tank water heater. The bathroom is small and it takes up about 1/3 of the bathroom. The camp has two sinks and a shower. What size tankless water heater do you think I would need? Will I need to add a different breaker on the main panel? Really want to free up some bathroom space. Other than washing dishes and the occasional 10 minute shower, hot water isn’t really used. No dishwasher or washing machine or anything like that. Thanks

If that’s all you using hot water for I would get a 30 gallon tank and just flip the breaker off, or turn the gas off to it, when you aren’t there.

A 30 gallon tank will take up about the same amount of floor space. Wouldn’t help much if any.

An electric tankless can need a lot of amps. What is your breaker box situation? 100 amp 200 amp? Can you add additional breakers if needed?

We have room on the panel but not sure about the amps. We don’t have any large appliance or anything running off it. We have a couple window units and a water pump for the well. Lights microwave stove/oven etc

I’m in the same exact situation with a camp and this is what I’m gonna do. Tankless requires a lot of juice and I hear if it’s not gas it’s not as good.

We installed a propane heater on exterior of houseboat while we wait the 3-4 years for SLECA to get us power again. Have the same usage, shower and dishes.

We have a propane one at the ranch in the barndo. We do have a large propane tank though. It’s way better then the electric tank one that we have to turn off when we leave because it’ll stink if we don’t.

You can install a tankles on the exterior of your home but you need to get one specifically to withstand the weather and insulate it properly.

We had neighbors install a new one before the 2022 freeze in BR and pipes burst days after install. They were out of town and didn't shut off the water.

If you go tankless, drain the coils in winter so they don’t freeze and crack in the colder nights. I lost my first one like this. 2nd one is an indoor unit. Excellent heaters and very fuel efficient. Don’t do electric.
