I have a hose reel that has been working fine except the hose connection to the actual reel itself is leaking.

no problem right? just pick up a $10 connector for the hose reel at home depot right? ok so i literally pick up a short piece of hose with a male connector on one end and a female connector on the other literally labelled "HOSE REEL ADAPTER".

so i unscrew the other one and toss it (along with the old hose) in the back of the pickup and take to the dump.

i come home, connect the new hose up to my house faucet and...i have a hose connector to attach to the end of it that is male..so if i screw the female side of the hose adapter to it..i'm left with the male side..and the hose reel is also male.

am i just stupid as shite or do i have the only hose reel on the planet with a male connection instead of female? i need a female to female adapter hose but looking that up online it shows it as a 'rain barrel adapter' and not a hose reel connector.

my brain hurts. i guess i can just buy a little brass F to F so i can connect the hose. surely i'm missing something here?

well capt obvious says thats why you never throw anything away until the job is finished

just go back to the store and see if they have the hose you need, or buy a hose fitting that you need and cut off the incorrect fitting on the hose you bought

So what am I’m missing here. The hose reel adapter you bought female end is attached to your faucet, the male end screws into a female adspter located on the side (outside) of the hose reel (that how all my hose reels are designed) and then the female end of your long 50, 75, 100 ft water hose connects to a male end adapter located on, or to the side, of the rotating hose reel itself.

What kind of weird hose reel do you have?

my water faucet is on top of a berm behind multiple shrubs. Therefore I have a 25' hose connected to the faucet that snakes around the hill and connects to the hose reel.

the hose reel lives on my driveway next to a retraining wall which is down the hill from the faucet.

the hose reel then connects to a 100' hose that winds on the spool.

so far so good.

now, the hose reel itself came with a small hose section original that i guess is F-F. i never paid much attention to it except when it started leaking. The hose from the house connects to that weird hose which connects to the side of the hose reel. the weirdo hose connector was leaking.

so when i tossed the old hose along w/ the leaky adapter hose i didnt pay attention to it and the only logical answer is that it must have been F to F so it connects to the end of the hose coming from the hose and to the male adapter on the side of the reel housing.

Well, another trip to Lowe’s/HD the store to find the right fitting/adapters to make it work - they’ll have them, but I’ve never seen a watering hose with 2 female ends - now that I think about I have and it’s those braised steel washing machine hoses with 2 female ends - had to use one of those for a outside water connection for the automatic pool filler (or whatever it’s called), but they don’t make those in the diameter you need to get your max water flow for a garden hose - but maybe they do?
