Finally got my Honeywell 22kW installed at home after ordering a while back.

I see the exercise cycle is 5 minutes weekly, biweekly, or monthly. 5 minutes seems a bit short to me but I’m thinking it’s acceptable if it’s manufacturer standard at this point.

Would biweekly or weekly be best for our hot, humid climate? Anyone who has years of use on their generators please chime in on what has worked best for you.

TIA

I've had mine for 5 years.

It runs weekly for 10 minutes - all my neighbors are the same way as well.

No issues at all.

I'd set it up for weekly test for a time that you'll be home. That way you'll know if it's running correctly. My parents have one set to run weekly on Sundays after they get home from church. It didn't come on one week and the battery had "exploded" as the tech called it and also caused the mother board to fry.

Ours runs weekly for 12 minutes. It's an older liquid cooled Generac.

25kw Cummings water cooled, mine runs once a week for 30 minutes. Its set for Sunday late afternoon.

When mine is exercising only the engine is running, not the generator itself. I have to do a manual override on the transfer switch for the generator to run.

I change all fluids in April and change out the battery every other year.

My friend cycles hers for 10 mins on a weekly basis. It’s never failed.

Mine is set for bi-weekly and has been working well since 2014.

Speaking as a professional generator user: run it under load* -- not always, but more than just now-and-then.

*Meaning: pull the main AC supply to your house, and if the genny properly starts up (not always guaranteed), then run it for an hour or so with your full house connected to it and see what happens.

Things may go bang or otherwise fail, but trust me, now is the time to find out vs. when the storm hits.
