Trying to decide if I want to use this or not. Thoughts? Very expensive but I like the idea of not Having to replace every year and the color holding.

I say don't do it. I have several friends that went this route and regret it. The biggest issue is the burning rubber smell in our summer heat. When the sun hits it, gives off a huge amount of smell. To the point that its the only thing you smell in their yard. Hard pass

Don’t do it. I did it a few years back and worst decision. It’s so lite that the wind blows it all over. I think sun gets thru more and weeds grow quicker. Then a heavy rain will also displace them. I’ll never do it again for what it costs.

Just say No

Like everything else, it does break down, and when it does, it leaches a witch's brew of heavy metals and toxic chemicals into the soil and ground water. Rubber mulch is also a fire hazard -- it burns at a much higher temperature than natural mulches and belches toxic smoke.

I have had rubber mulch for 11 years and it’s not as bright as it used to be but I wouldn’t trade it for redoing it every year. I haven’t had any smell and it’s not light enough to blow away in the wind. The only time it blows around is if I hit it with the leaf blower full blast. I think some brands are better than others so do research and don’t buy the cheap stuff. I think rubber mulch gets a bad rap from ppl buying the cheaper brands.

I can’t remember what brand I have, but I had to order it online and pick it up at a warehouse in Nola. It’s used in playgrounds as well.

Does this ring a bell?

My parents have had this stuff for years and they love it. Was just curious on other peoples experience.

Home grade rubber mulch is fine and much more expensive. Cheaper rubber mulch from shredded tires... DO NOT DO IT. The smell really never goes away.

Honestly I sort of like replacing the faded mulch every year with new mulch. Means spring is officially here.

i would never recommend this to anyone. it leeches toxins as well as increases heat retention. The color fades. I don't care what the manufacturer says, it fades and it looks like shite

How can rubber mulch even be considered a healthy alternative?
Seems like I'd be just deliberately thriwing cutup tires in my yard

Just like landscape fabric. It’s nice at first but think about what happens a year from now or 5 years from now. You want to get something organic.
