Thinking of getting some windows on my home tinted or doing it myself. Anyone done it or can recommend anyone? Thanks in advance.

It may have changed, but years ago some window warranties were void if tint was added.

you can and it helps a lot keeping heat and glare out, but at night they all turn reflective like mirrors so keep this in mind

Great input. How about solar screens? Any experience?

Ive done it.
Make sure you get the one that is made for residential use and for the INSIDE of the window. Gila has one that can only be applied on the outside and it sucks.
The windows I've done with the heat control used in conjunction with blinds/curtains has made a world of difference in terms of heat.
Not very hard to "install" just take your time and use a lot of the application solutions (which is basically dawn and water).

Any helpful input on how to get it off?
SO bought a house earlier this year & it looks like crap
Looks like the previous owners washed the windows with a Brillo pad

All the types I've seen just peel off?

We've had solar screens and they made a difference. It's been many years, and I don't remember the cost. We went with screens because of possible warranty problems with tint at that time.

Thanks, I didn’t want to start something that made a bigger mess of things

I had the clear ceramic tint put on inside of my west facing windows and it made a very significant difference. Worth the money

You're getting downvoted, but you're right. I make insulating glass and our warranty is voided if a film is applied.

I have it, and I love it (pro install). Makes outside world look less harsh, gives a slight reflective look from outside. Keeps the house cool.

I did our kitchen window because the afternoon sun makes it unbearable otherwise.
10 degree difference as soon as I was done and we don't have to close the shade anymore.

We had the windows on the west side of our old house tinted by a professional. He used kind of a bronze colored tint that wasn't real dark but was supposed to block a lot of the uv and heat. I would do it again if we didn't have shade trees around new house.
