Roundup while that mess is dormant.

But I use a bayer product that has been decent. Liquid thing, I buy the refills and spray. Doesn't have to be perfect, just give the bermuda a head start and it'll outgrow anything. It grows up the damn walls.

It depends on what you’re trying to control.

Prodiamine is probably the most widely used.

Be careful. My Bermuda in the Florida panhandle hasn't gone fully dormant this year.

Prodiamine (“Barricade”), Dithopyr (“Dimension”) and “Specticle” are all good ones, with Specticle perhaps being the “gold standard” but it is also a good bit more expensive than the other 2 on a “per 1000 sq ft of lawn” basis. Spray versions of each will be less expensive per 1000 sq ft than the granular versions. I use all three and been happy with all.

Specticle can control Doveweed which the other two do not. Dimension has some post-emergent control activity for young crabgrass, which the other two do not.

None will control 100% of all weeds, certainly not perennial weeds like Virginia buttonweed or Dallisgrass, but all are game changers when it comes to reducing post-emergent weed control activities.

I use specticle in the fall. Usually around October. Poa and rescue grass are big problems in DFW and specticle is great at controlling it. Barricade in the spring for crabgrass. Usually two apps. I’ll do a liquid app in February and probably 19-0-5 with barricade in March. These warm temps might have Bermuda breaking dormancy early this year.

Mine is pretty green right now. Way too early for a scalp but I’ll probably need to cut here in the next week.

In some of my more traveled areas I had new growth. Crazy that it was single digits for me the week of Christmas and mid January it’s warm enough to send up shoots.

I live in NW Arkansas and my grass is very dormant. I put down Weed Stop in the fall. I am checking on what to put down this spring.

Has anyone used Lesco products? Lowes has this by me.

Yes I use LESCO products, usually purchased from Site One. They are good products and reasonably priced.

That product is a weed & feed, with the “weed” component being a pre-emergent herbicide. As ronk stated in his post, two above, that would be a product best used when it’s time to fertilize your lawn for the first time, which given your location might be April?

But it would still behoove you to apply a pre-emergent herbicide product with no fertlizer (“feed”) when the soil temperature approaches 55 F, the temperature at which crabgrass seeds begin to germinate - in south LA that would likely be early to mid-Feb; for your location that would be later.

I prefer not to use a weed and feed this time around so I will look for something else that has only weed in it.

See if there is a Site One Landscape Supply near you - if so, they’ll have everything you need or want at very good prices. There are only 2 in LA, and I luckily I live 10 min from one.

The closest one is 72 miles away. Last fall I used Weed Stop.

What about this?

Looks like the active ingredient is Pendimethalin which if I remember correctly is similar to prodiamine so that would work. Reading up on it real quick, it seems like it doesn't last as long as prodiamine so it may take more applications.

Yes - the active ingredient in that product is Pendimethalin which is a pre-emergent herbicide commonly recommended along with the other 3 mentioned in earlier post by turf and weed management extension specialists at land grant universities.

Personally I’ve never used it, and BallsEleven is correct in that from what I read the efficacy of Pendamethalin is not as long as Dimension or Prodiamine, so it might need to be used with greater frequency, and additionally from what I the read it can stain concrete (yellow color) that it comes into contact with. Prodiamine is also yellow in color but from what I gather doesn’t have the staining effect on concrete.

With those things in mind, that product should be fine for your use. I will say if you have any sizeable retail garden centers nearby, or hardware store or feed & seed stores with good garden section, they will often carry Dimension and/or Prodiamine pre-emergent products.

I check several farm/feed supply, big box hardware and small hardware stores with no luck.

Amazon may be my best option.

I have had good luck with MSMA. Brand does not matter. Hit it hard right now as Bermuda should be dormant. But with that said the right mixture will not harm Bermuda grass. Do it four to five times a year.
