I want to say it is. I usually wait till late Feb/early March. Soil temp here has been over 50 since Jan. 22nd.
I have Lesco 0-0-7 ready to go.

I use a split application in spring. When soil temps are 55 and 70 degrees.

5 day average is 54 so my first application is probably going down next week.

Here’s a good article on it.

When to apply Prodiamine

What’s a preemergent for dollarweed this summer, and burrweed (for next year?)

This is the way to go with split apps. Wasting money by going to early is better than wasting it by going to late.

Dollarweed is a perennial weed, spreads vegetatively - so no pre-emergent will work.

Lawn burweed - pre-emergents: LSU AgCenter recommends Simazine; Clemson suggest Isoxaben (“Gallery”). Perhaps Specticle as it’s listed on the label.

I don’t think it’s too early - I got email reminder this AM from GreenCast of soil temp approaching 55 F in BR area for crabgrass seed germination. Rain is forecast for next weekend - always convenient to apply before a rain and let Mother Nature water it in.

Crawdude - how much would be too much of a rain after application?

If it's anything like weather in BR today, I imagine THIS is too much rain.

I bought a 50# bag of Dimension from Site One in the fall and they said that it lasts 3 months. I applied in early October and then again in early January. Do I need to apply again in April?? I have a zoysia yard FYI.

A monsoon?

Seriously, I really don’t know, but wouldn’t sweat the fact you’d have an issue with too much rain. You’re applying granular product to grass, the active ingredient is going nowhere except into the soil once watered in where it’s bound to soil colloids, with only a small amount in soil-water solution. Unless you anticipate all your soil being washed away it’s not going to be an issue.

Thanks, Crawdude

I spread some dirt booster Friday prior to this recent rain.
Plan to put down pre emerge prior to next forecast rain.

There are weed seeds that germinate later in the spring at soil temperatures of 70 F, late April-May (southern LA), Doveweed and Goosegrass are couple that come to mind - there are others. If you deal with those, you can certainly consider another application of pre-emergent in April, given you applied pre-emergent in Jan. A couple other posters have mentioned they do a split application of pre-emergent in late winter, later spring, then again fall for winter annual weeds.

I personally do a second application of pre-emergent in late April/early May b/c I have Doveweed issue, but I use Specticle pre-emergent because Dimension or Prodiamine have little efficacy in controlling Doveweed seed germination. I have had dramatic decreases in Doveweed issues since I started doing this 3 - maybe 4 - years ago.

It’s really boils too as to how much issue you have with summer annual weeds - not perennial weeds like Virginia Buttonweed - that’s a whole different discussion.

Now. You can use it safely up until daytime highs hit the mid-80s, late April/early May, in the BR area - I usually switch to MSM and/or Celsius by then. Of course, don’t use it on non-dormant Bermudagrass.

I had the sod installed a year ago so I didn't have too many issues last year other than a few spotty weeds and some VBW which I handled with Celsius. Considering I have plenty Dimension, I'll probably lay down another application in late April. Thanks CD!!

Anybody ever use one of these while using the Clegg's Formula?

Chapin Lawn and Garden Hose-End Sprayer

Curious what the flow rate should be.

I'm an absolute novice here but I put some Lesco stonewall down last Monday on 1/29. That SOUNDS like it'd be early as shite, but we had a period of warmth for a stretch and soil temps were over 50 for a week so I went for it. As others have said it's not going to typically hurt anythign to put it down a bit early, but if you're a bit late you could be fricked.
