Power flickered and AC now blowing hot air. Any ideas?

Power flickered while both AC running. Wasn’t long enough to even rest the clocks. Now both are blowing hot air. Turned them off and reset the breakers.
Still have hot air. Any other switches or resets to flip?

This happened to us a couple weeks ago and here’s what worked.
Turn the AC to off at the thermostat.
Turn breaker for AC off.
Wait a few seconds then Turn breaker only back on.
WAIT 30 MINUTES then turn AC thermostat to cool.
This worked for us. Good luck.

Cycle power to the air handlers. You are not getting a 24v signal to the contactor on the condenser. Turn thermostat down to 66 and manually push in contactor with an insulated screw driver,

Thanks to LSUtgrgrl for telling me to patient.
Turned everything off and reset the breakers again. Waited 30 minutes and it finally started blowing cold after 10 minutes of running. Amazing how hot it got with the AC off for 1.5 hours. Went from 74 to 82.

Most thermostats have a 5 min delay when they lose power.
The problem is that when it only flickers the thermostat doesn’t notice and doesn’t shut off for the delay.
The newer refrigerant operates at high pressure and when the compressor stops, you have to give time to equalize in the system before resting. Otherwise, the compressor tries to turn on and can’t function correctly trying to start up
against a large head pressure.

My Trane unit in my previous house had a 30 minute safety delay before starting after a power blink.

Best way to prevent this is using a device with brownout protection. I have a MicroAir soft starter that does this but the simpler fix is installing an Emerson Sureswitch solid state contactor. It has a delay on it to protect your compressor in the event of a flicker. Then if your thermostat is feeding it 24V after the flicker it’ll kick the compressor back on at the appropriate time.

Mine did something similar last Friday. AC guy got out in about 10 minutes, so that was great.
Checked everything and was pretty sure it was the capacitor. Then checked it and it was fine. He feels that is may have had power surge or otherwise and short cycled, causing it to overheat and shut down?? I was only partially paying attention so this may not be accurate, but either way, it was working again and I was happy.

I have two Micro-Airs being delivered today. That adjustable delay was the reason I bought them. I figured it would be less likely to bog down the generator in an outage, can keep them from starting concurrently, and will ensure my generator doesn’t have to shed any loads when they start up.

Exactly why I got mine - I have one on a 3 minute delay and another on a 5 minute delay. Both utilize a Honeywell WiFi thermostat so they would start nearly simultaneously if not for that feature.
As for the soft staters, they are fantastic. Nary a flicker in the house when they kick on. The compressor fan also turns on 5 seconds before the compressor so that reduces the inrush a bit as well.
Also love being able to link with Bluetooth and see how many starts they have. Both of mine are around 7k starts since last October! I had no idea AC compressors start that much and one of mine is an R22 from 2003. So 19 years of that has to put it over 200,000 starts. Wild.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I simply took the unit off at the thermostat for about 20 minutes and then set the thermostat low enough to make the unit come back on and began cooling. It got to about 82 degrees in my house while unit was off. This was around 7 P.M..
Accutemp service tech told me my compressor thermaled???? out during the surge and that's what caused this. I did not reset the outside breaker to the AC and no mention of capacitor problem. My unit is only 2 months old
