What type of wood out of Cedar, Cypress or #2 Pine would you choose for front porch columns?

Size 10”x10”x10’
Light color stain
Sun hits it about 4 to 6 hrs a day depending on time of year

If you’re going to stain them, Pine or Cypress. If natural, Cedar or Cypress.

I used stained Cypress for my porch columns. I have to refinish them every couple years.

I agree with the above. Cypress or Pine for staining. I used 10x10 pine beams on my patio project. I had a hard time finding cypress and the cost was double that of pine. I'm in North LA though. Just make sure you get them off the ground with some sort of waterproof base.

Cedar all day every day!

Pine and cypress will rot.

Treated #2 6x6 with an air gap and wrapped with a nice 1x board stained. Mitered ends and possibly a small (~1/4") filet.
