It’s in the attic and older, so it might be time to get a new one but also read that there’s either too much ventilation or not enough ventilation. How would I know that?

Yep. Most likely thermocouple assuming nothing has changed from a ventilation perspective and it worked fine previously. Easy replacement.

Take a shop vac to the screen by the burner and try again. If it’s clogged it won’t have enough air to light. You can also and what works the best for me long time is using a feather duster on the screen.

Often you can lightly sand with tip/bulb of the thermocouple with fine grit sandpaper without removing it and fix the problem, at least temporarily. But it you have to remove the thermocouple to gain access to the bulb, just go ahead and replace it.

I had one that had the same issue.

Mine turned out to be lack of airflow.

There is a screen that got dirty with dust and choked the flame out. I had to get a brush to clean the screen.

If your light will light and stays on for a while and then goes out, it very well could be this.

If it lights and then goes out after you release the knob from lighting, it’s the thermocouple
