I have some spots like that, mixture of centipede and st aug. I think I have grubs or fungus… did the soap test and saw grub come out in 2 patches. I’ve also seen web on the lawn with some dew a few weeks ago which I read was fungal. I’ve spreadsome grub ex and fungus stuff so far. Still waiting

Sounds like sod webworms to me. Check to see if you have any little white moths flying when disturbed. Those frickers can eat your turf to bare ground with quickness. I would apply pesticide now.

Are webworms even out and about in March?

No moths or insects on surface, the webs would go away when sun came out and dried the dew out. Seems to be mycelium or dollar spot based on research.

What's the history of that area? When did it start and how fast did it spread. Had you applied anything to the grass yet? Did it go from green to brown or green to yellow to brown? Low spot? If you look at the green grass that borders the dead spots is there is spotting or discoloration? If it has discoloration pull the roots out and see if they are black.

Grass seemed to be doing fine going into winter. First noticed it a couple months ago, I at first thought this was from the freeze. At first it seemed to spread fairly fast. I have not applied anything to the grass. Grass went from green to brown. Area drains well. The grass bordering it has no black spots or discoloration, roots seem fine also.

Mine does that every year. It'll come back. BUT This is why I'm in the process of replacing all my centipede with Celebration Bermuda, one sprig and plug at a time

Will Bermuda eventually take over centipede in cases like this? Debating replacing mine as well.

Yes, and I help it with some MSMA. Doesnt affect the bermuda but kills the centipede

That would assume to rule out fungus. No spotting, no root damage and no color change.

Did you have early spring growth and then a frost happened? When was the last time you fertilized last year?

What do you fertilize with, how much, and how often?

https://i.postimg.cc/TYmgMg2v/IMG-2036.jpg> Yes, we had early growth. Also, since that freeze last weekend, the affected area has doubled if not more. I fertilized last spring. I had back surgery (Fusion) in August and just now able to get out and about. I had the grass mowed about 3/4 weeks ago.

My centipede browned after the frost the other night. It was looking good prior to that. I still say be patient until we get a spell of warm weather and monitor what happens then.

New growth on centipede can get seriously damaged by frost. Burning it and sending it back to dormancy. If it’s not getting bigger ride it out for two to three more weeks and hit with a quarter pound of N and see how it responds.

ronk has given you good advice to follow, but if the centipede in the affected area doesn’t recover be familiar with the symptoms of this lawn disease Take All Root Rot . ronk asked you if you had the symptoms in the affected areas, you indicated you didn’t, but be familiar with it nonetheless. I had a patch of it my centipede lawn several years ago, but I identified the cause, corrected it, and have not had a reoccurrence.
