Getting close to wrapping up new construction in Houma, LA. Looking at getting sod installed in the front yard. Grass novice and have no clue what to get. 1st guy I spoke with recommended Palisade Zoysia. He said if I wanted to go cheaper then get Centipede. Any recommendations?

Palisade Zoysia is great if you can swing it. I sodded around my house with it and it’s great.

I would never recommend centipede, but it is very cheap and kinda green.

I like centipede.

It's slow growing and called the lazy man's grass.

Here all the recommended options:

I’ve had centipede at two houses. Absolute garbage at both. Very susceptible to weeds and other issues. However this is crappy Northshore soil as well. May have better luck in Houma. I resodded my previous yard with st Aug and it was amazing. Looked awesome, spread quickly, and when I cut it high it prevented alot of weeds from growing.

I like Bermuda. Had zoysia also at previous house. Super thick, if I cut it a few days late and it was damp it was a real bitch to cut.

Centipede can look great. But it will crap out on you after 4-5 years.

I sodded Zoysia and am convinced it will someday take over the planet. Super thick and chokes out everything. Grows pretty slow too so I don't have to mow that often.

In hindsight, I wish I would've planted either Bermuda or Zoysia. Centipede sucks arse.
