Long story short, came back after being gone for 4 days and the AC unit is no longer cooling the house. It's a brand new unit (4-5 months old) and the fan is moving but the noise I normally here when the, I think, compressor sort of kicks on is not taking place.

Is there any problem solving I can do before calling someone? I've flipped the circuit breaker, turned off for 24 hours, unplugged and plugged back in something attached to the side of my house that I don't even know what is.

The electric in my house is wired weird, is there any way there's a switch/electric for the compressor and not the whole unit? I obviously don't know shite. It's the first AC i've owned lol.

ANY help or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Are we talking about an outside or window unit?

Outside compressor? Go over and check to make sure a branch or something hasn't fallen in there and jamming it.

Sounds like something like that if this is only 4-5 months old

Outside unit. When I turned off the power I looked inside and it's clear. No branches, plants or anything. The fan is spinning with no issue.

Is the thermostat set for the AC to come on? Or is it by chance in fan only? Someone may have turned it off when the cool spell hit this week. and the compressor will not kick on if the switch is in the wrong position.

Probably the capacitor.

Then again, I can’t remember if the outside fan runs without the capacitor.

Check the air filter to make sure it’s not completely clogged. Check the evaporator coil to make sure it isn’t frozen. If it’s neither of those, it’s probably a capacitor, which should still be under warranty if it’s only 5 months old

Like others have said capacitor...would be the most probable cause

Capictor. You can tell when you look at it. It will either have a leak stain or bulge on top

4 months old? Call the company who installed it. Should be a warranty call.

Capacitor. The top should be inflated. Some of the responses are ridiculous

Should be a warranty call as said. Is the thermostat on I’m assuming? Could be a blocked drain line that’s kicking the thermostat off with a float kill switch.

Otherwise likely the capacitor as said.

Do this first, my wife turned my thermostat on to fan Sat. morning to "air the house out" Later Saturday it started getting hot so she closed the windows while we were watching the game and it didn't cool off. I checked it Sunday morning and sure enough the thermostat wasn't on cool setting so compressor would not kick on. switched it and cooling fine now LOL

Drain has float switch, if it is clogged it won’t let it cool. Clear the line and pour bleach in periodically to keep from clogging
