I was going to be doing a broadcast application in my front yard to kill Bahia and VBW. Currently reading through the label and it's making me feel like an idiot. Just wanted to confirm I'm doing this right before I kill my St Aug front yard. My front yard is ~2000 SF.

Per some of Ronk's posts I'm using a fan sprayer and will walk with the tip at about knee height.

The label recommends the following

quote:

St. Augustinegrass, Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass
(Meyers and Emerald)
: Apply 0.25 to 1.0 oz of MSM Turf
Herbicide per acre for weed control. Some chlorosis or
stunting of the turfgrass may occur following application.
Bahiagrass Control: For the selective control of
Bahiagrass in Bermudagrass turf, use 0.25 to 0.75 oz of
MSM Turf Herbicide per acre. Use the higher rates of the
range on Argentine, Common and Paraguayan Bahiagrass.
Apply a repeat treatment in 4 to 6 weeks if necessary.
Some chlorosis or stunting

43560 SF in an acre. Front yard is 0.046/Acre. That has me applying 0.046/OZ of MSM if I apply at the highest rate.

Is there any easier way to calculate this? Is there a set amount to mix in to 2 gallons instead relying on the per acre application rate?

I have not pulled the trigger on msm yet, probably subconsciously because I’m worried about how precise the application rates are.

Same here, I bought it in the spring and haven't had the sack to use it yet. I made my whole yard go dormant early at about this time last year from fukkin' off with celsius.

It's a small amount. Looks like a pinch per gallon. Need a small scale to do it correctly.

I would do 1/8th teaspoon in 2 gallons water and apply at 1 gallon per 1000 sq ft. I usually do 1/4 teaspoon per 2 gallons for spot spraying and 1/8 teaspoon per 2 gallons for broadcast and never had any grass die on me….. yet

Also put a couple teaspoons of surfactant in the can.

Edit: also here’s a tip. Make sure the pellets dissolve. They are more stubborn about dissolving than something like Celsius. I like to put them in water bottle and shake it up real good to make sure they’re dissolved, then add to tank.

I have a small Triton scale that I use for Celsius.

Thanks y'all. Trying to get this done Sunday before a week of cooler weather. Hopefully I don't do much damage.

Do as Sir Saint stated. Add 1/8 teaspoon of MSM + 2 teaspoons of surfactant per gallon to 1 or 2 gallons of water and use that cover 1000 sq ft of lawn. The key is to apply that 1/8 of a teaspoon, 0.5 grams, over 1000 sq ft of lawn (this is the high rate) regardless of how much water you need to cover that 1000 sq ft. Some can cover it with a gallon, others like me, require 2 gallons to cover 1000 sq ft with my sprayer and my walking gate.
