So long story short, my mail carrier hit my mailbox this afternoon. I live in a subdivision with an HOA and everyone has to have the same mailbox. My question to y’all is this. If this has ever happened to you, when you contacted the postal service, were you reimbursed 100% for your mailbox and post? Or maybe was it a percentage?

What kind of mail carrier delivers mail on Sunday? You can barely get them to deliver the mail Monday through Saturday

You can get it repaired and file a claim with the postmaster.

Like dealing with any quasi-government organization it is a total pain in the arse. But you will get reimbursed eventually.

Might as well do it as the postal carriers don't give a frick.

They tore up mine and I confronted the lady the next day and she said "Oh, I did it." I asked her why she didn't say anything or leave a note and she just shrugged.

This same person wears shorts, a t-shirt, and slides to work as a postal carrier so we aren't getting the cream of the crop at USPS.

I told her to keep her truck out of my driveway if she couldn't refrain from backing over the mailbox.

Good luck.

You stand a better chance getting reimbursed than us.

Last year during one of the many passing hurricanes a neighbor down the street hit our brick mailbox. What they were doing driving around in a hurricane we never did find out. Anyway, they left a business card on the door with so we talked to them. Claims of hard times, blah, blah, blah.

Cost us $450 to have it rebuilt by the same original builder (still active building in the subdivision). So far we've gotten 1 $100 payment from the neighbor. Don't expect more as they are people of low expectations if ya know what I mean.

You will need to file a tort claim with the usps

Our mailman hit our aluminum type mailbox- actually a few times. I was rigging it to get by. After the second time I called the post office station where I believed he worked out of - this was only after I left a note for him and didn’t get a response.
I was surprised that they actually came out to look at the mailbox and we came up with a solution

Back in my claims days, I had a cop take out a mailbox for an apartment complex. The mailbox was rotted out and actually leaning towards the street over the curve. Our internal attorney told us that the police were on the hook to replace the entire thing, no percentage discount, because they caused the damage and not responding to a call. They paid within 3 days of us sending notice, no questions asked.

You most likely will need to replace then seek reimbursement.

In Louisiana, the police can/could get out of some at fault accidents if they are responding to calls.

Had the same thing happen to me. USPS ran into my mailbox and tore the top part off. I happened to be in my garage at the time and heard her hit the box.
I walked toward her to confront her about it and she took off. Called the post office in my area and he drove over to my house to check out the damage.
He filed a claim on my behalf and I got a check from USPS for $350 to get it replaced and installed.

Well the full story is that he hit the box and left a note with my mother, who was babysitting our kids at the time and heard him hit it. . My wife and I were out of the house. He didn’t want me to report to the postal service because he didn’t want to lose his job, so he left me his name and cell number. I’m a reasonable person. Monday morning, I called the company that makes the mailboxes for our neighborhood. The quote I got was $340 (plus tax) to replace the box (not the post), and weld it back onto the post and repaint it. The offer I presented to him was to give me $170 and we’d call it even. So he pays $170 and I pay $170 (plus about $24 in tax) and we call it square and I don’t report him to usps. I feel like that is more than fair. He said he would contact me this afternoon, but I haven’t heard from him yet. I’m a pretty patient guy so I’ll text him tomorrow and request he responds by Thursday.
