How's everyone's citrus?

My lemon tree is looking like it might have the most banger year ever. It's LOADED with flowers.

Nice. Mine looks like total garbage but that's because I gave it the most ruthless winter prune of all time. Turned a 8 foot tall thick bushy tree into a 5 foot tall open vase shape. Probably took 70% of the tree off. I just got too tired of not being able to control white flies, sooty mold, and leaf miner. The thing was constantly infested despite frequent spraying. Now the whole tree can be hit with the sprayer and be exposed to airflow and sunlight. May or may not fruit after the shock wears off. Gave it its annual fertilization yesterday.

My two satsuma trees look fine. One is a 4 year old Brown's that I didn't cover, the other is a 2 year old Arctic Frost. We put a greenhouse over my wife's 5 year old Meyer lemon and it's currently losing all of its leaves. It looks like the branches are still alive, though. I'm kind of glad it lost the leaves because it looked terrible. I haven't been able to figure out the whitefly infestations and it was covered in sooty mold.

Did I screw up? I was cutting down the ice cream banana trunks that I didnt protect. It looks like this one was still alive for the most part. There good news is that the trunk i protected looks like it got through with minimal damage.

No mistake. Not alive just not brown yet. I cut mine today and had 3 ice creams make it.

Every single worthless dwarf Cavendish died straight to the ground just like every other year. I hate dwarf Cavendish.

Not a fruit tree but two of my Christmas tree palms are getting worse and worse every day here. Damn things looked great the couple of days after the cold but now all the sudden, they are going downhill every day. Not sure if its the cold or something else

It's definitely the cold. Did you check for spear pull?

Considering I dont know what that is, I highly doubt it.

Hard here in Central Florida with HLB… My Sugarbelle has flowers; but, has grown really minimally over the past two years. Hasn’t gave me fruit yet. This may be the year. My Persian Lime and Meyer Lemon are toast. I’ve had decent luck with UF SunLimes. Sort of impractical for eating beyond using the caviar for tacos, as a garnish or for cocktails. I have one in the ground I’m about to yank and put it back in a pot. This recent Florida freeze has me rethinking my strategy a bit. Moving forward I think I’m going to throw some more cold hardy varieties in the mix. Got in contact with a local mulberry aficionado recently. Have some cuttings coming and will try them out.

Thanks for the pic, now I know what I'm looking for when I trim down the stalk I protected.

The more green in the middle the better it fared. That first one I posted is on its last leg and one more freeze will probably do it in. The 2nd one is in much better shape and pushing leaves. My huge one also may be alive but it's too tall to cut at the top even with a ladder.

My big Christmas palm dropped one of the outside frowns today. One of the ones that was brown and it was perfect underneath. The next skin is very green and looks very healthy. I guess the cold killed a few of the outside ones and they will just need to shed off. Good news there. Ive never seen them turn brown like that while the frowns are still green.

ON another note, I cant get ride of gnats in a lot of my house plants and palms. They are in the soil. I have been using drops (10 per gallon) when I water all my plants for over 2 months and they all still have gnats in the soil. If you either rake your hands through there or when you water them. Any thoughts?

This is what I have been using.

And I am using them inside on

Cat Palm
Majestic Palm
Fiddle-Leaf Fig
Pothos
Peace Plant
Thai Con

Mosquito bits allegedly work. I use pyrethrin. Just give the top of the soil a good heavy spray a couple times per week.

I never thought of putting a tree in my office! I'm here every day and it gets tons of sun!

My office has two cargo doors that were converted to windows so I should have plenty of sun as well. I got notification this morning that the two trees will be delivered today.

Cool idea. My family owns the land our office sits on so I'm going use it as an experimental plot. Lots of full sun and even some protected southern facing alcoves. Right now I've just got a loquat out there and the landscapers killed the kumquat.

Post some pics when yours come it. Sounds like you have a great indoor setup. Got anything to manage humidity?

Good question. I expect I am usually between 60-70%. This is not the most comfortable office, especially with the other person in the office often having their window open. I will need to get something to measure the humidity and go from there.

Pickering is the smaller one. I will label them tomorrow at the office.

On a side note, someone else in the office that has converted cargo doors is now looking at tropical plants for her office.

Nice. Looks like you've got a lot of sand in that mix which is a good start.

Sand, peat moss and vermiculite. I put a layer of pea gravel in the bottom with burlap to help with drainage.

What kind of sand are you guys buying to put in your mix? I looked around at my local home depot and all I saw was playground sand

I just started this last year, so don't rely on me for expert advice, but I tried to get different kinds of sand and mix them. I used the gray/grit sand and the sand used for leveling brick pavers.
