hate to keep asking banana questions but should I be doing anything with these namwah pups? 3 on one and 2 on the other.





Seems to me I should remove them, since these hopefully will have all next growing season to send up some more?

A little update/question post


I worked outside today and cut all my plants outside my fence that are planted in the ground. It was absolutely exhausting. I dont have the amount of things you guys have but I do have a ton of plants that needed attention.

Inside the cage, I planted a few new things, repotted a few and cut a bunch.


This was a new project. I had potted up some cuttings off one of my golden pothos that were growing like crazy outside. So I bought a pot, a trellis moss pole and put this together today. Should look good as the pothose climbs. Kinda always wanted to do this




I have been looking for two Blue glow agave plants for my water fall area of my pool for months and just cant find what I was looking for so I bought two mangave lavender ladies. They were the correct size and I like the way they look as well. I wanted something in these two pots that would not trash my pool, not cover up my expensive pot and be a little different. I got that






When I took them out of the pot, I noticed both had a pup on them so I puled them off and planted them. LOL. Should be usuble plants in 2034






My new nono varigated bannana tree is doing well. I repotted it a week ago and its just rolling along. I have had it two weeks and it has put out two new leaves in that time. Its putting out a new leaf about every 7 days. I have it up against my house where it gets some sun but my huge alocasia is shading it some.

It also has two pups growing that I cant wait to cut off and plant. I just dont know how long to wait to cut them.






My dwarf plumeria is really growing.. I had to move it away from the pool because I could not get past it while scooping the pool out. Its just too wide. No blooms but lots of new growth and it is looking fantastic





I have a bunch of desert roses but these two are my favorite. They are pretty big and seem to always flower. The yellow one is my favorite and id love to have another one of those.






My lipstick is rolling along. Ive had it in partial sun all week an pulled it back from the heat today. Its doing OK out there but I dont want to burn it up. I do have some questions about it but that is another thread





I trimmed a bunch of yellow leaves off these birds of paradise today. They had been doing so good until it started raining every day. I can only hope that they are getting too much water because I am having a lot of yellow leaves



My varigated gingers are just thriving. Even the ones in the sun are doing good after the sun goes in every day. They roll up the leaves when the sun is on them but open back up when it gets off them. THey are doing exactly what I wanted them to do. Fill in the space under my Pygmy palms to give me some privacy. They will eventually do that. I bought these things in the spring in 3 gal pots. Some of them now are massive. Ive cut some of them because they had gotten so big already








My Chamaedorea radicalis is also doing well. It was potted in Gary soil a while ago and has done well. I have some new fronds opening up on it and the old fronds never got any worse after receiving it a little burned up. I have it in a row of plants up near my house which is somewhat shaded by a big majestic palm and my other alocasia.






My alocasias may be some of my favorite plants and for some reason, the like the way I care for them. Both are in gary soil and both are thriving. ''

Depends on your goal. Is it harvesting fruit or is fruit a happy potential incidental bonus?

Thanks so much man. Im very happy with how things are going considering I really dont know anything about any of this. I have only been gardening about a year and knew absolutely nothing before. Just doing what I learn from you guys and a few of my friends.

My entire life has been revolving around fishing. I have been a charter captain since 1997 and I own a tackle business where I manufacture fresh water bass tackle since 2000. Everything that I do has something to do with fishing or fishing tackle. After 30 years of that, I needed something else to just get away from it. I tried guitar but man, I just cant seem to get into it like I thought I would

Doing this has been a huge escape. I look forward to getting out there and messing with my potted stuff and the mounds of stuff I have planted in my small yard. No doubt it did what I needed it to do.


I have had good luck with the alocasia plants and now I want some kind of variegated or different colored one. If you guys have any recommendations, let me know. I have always loved the big ear plants.

Ok, here goes probably a dumb lipstick question but here goes.


At my local nursery, they have a huge lipstick palm for sale that has been there a while. It is going to be something difficult for them to sell for $1800 considering that it would need to come in during the winter. Either way it's a great looking tree and has the red on the trunks.

Something I noticed checking it out this week is the difference in the fronds on the trucks that are red and the ones that are not. The ones that are not red, are exactly like the ones on my palm. They are basically a stem coming out of the dirt and at the top they have a "Y" shaped leaf pattern. Basically just two leaves split off. That is exactly how every one of mine. This is from the big one at the nursery.









Now, the larger shafts in the middle of that big palm are red, and the fronds coming out of it or more like you would see on a typical palm tree. Like a majestic or a Christmas palm. It's a fan style, double sided palm frond. You can see it in this picture.






Now I am assuming this is something that will come with age? I got mine early this year in a 3 gallon pot and now it is in a seven, which I repotted about four months ago. Though it is continuing to grow and has great colors, I have not seen any hint of red on the shafts. Is that something it's just going to come as it gets older? Here are a few pictures of mine.

I don't know if it's possible to cut them off and ship one to you, but if it is, I would be more than happy to send one of them your way. No problem at all. You would have to help me with the packaging.
